It's been a long time in the making but GSC Game World is back and the company has announced that it will be making a brand new S.T.A.L.K.E.R., game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. When is the game coming out? Well, it won't be out for a long time but it is coming.

The news comes courtesy of the brand new official website opening that has the title of the game and "2021" underneath it. Many suspect that this is the release date for when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be released, while others wonder if it may refer to some other event on the horizon.

The news was further confirmed with a post on the official social media page of GSC Game World studio head, Sergiy Grygorovych, who announced to the gaming world that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was coming.

Whether or not the game is in active development hasn't been broadcast to the public yet, but most people assume that it is.

The last S.T.A.L.K.E.R., game to be released was S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. The game followed a relic hunter into the city of Pripyat located within Ukraine. There were actually several unique locations to explore in the game, as players attempted to discover some of the mysteries behind the artifacts scattered about the zone.

What was so unique about the S.T.A.L.K.E.R., series was that it took place in a sandbox environment and players were given complete control when it came to exploring the world and progressing through the game. There were no restrictions when it came to gunfights and shootouts, with players capable of killing any and everyone, including other stalkers, and progressing through the game at their own pace. The game's realistic shooting mechanics and reliance on scavenging preceded the survival simulation genre that spawned thereafter with the advent of games like Rust and DayZ.

Back in 2011 GSC Game World originally closed and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was shelved seemingly multiple times before officially being cancelled in 2012. Over the course of the last several years there have been some minor attempts to revive the franchise under different names, such as Survarium, but it just never really took off and the attempts at the revivals languished.

Well, apparently, GSC Game World has finally managed to get stable and is now aiming to bring back the first-person shooter series. The thing is, we have no idea what platforms the game will be on or whether or not it will simply take what was already established in the previous games or do something completely new.

I think most fans would just be happy with a S.T.A.L.K.E.R., game that actually ran right proper out of the gate, didn't crash constantly, had good gun handling, and featured upgraded graphics compared to what was featured in the last outing nearly a decade ago.

Apparently, we'll have to wait until 2021 to find out exactly what the game will be like, but, hopefully, we'll receive some screenshots and trailers well ahead of its release. Who knows, maybe GSC will make a surprise appearance at GamesComlater this year to give gamers a hint at what to expect.
