Jarrod Cameron’s ‘pipes’ are ready for another trademark celebration

IF YOUR eyes haven’t glazed over the future champions of the AFL in the Under 18 Championships — then Jarrod Cameron is a name to keep in the back of your mind.

The brother of Brisbane Lions’ Charlie was a standout performer in Western Australia’s 32 point win over Vic Country in Round 4 of the coveted underage carnival.

Cameron booted a bag of five goals from 10 disposals and was notable for his trademark celebrations after every goal he kicked.

“I don’t mind a celebration,” Cameron told foxfooty.com.au.

“You might see another one coming later in the week.

“I’ve been working on the pipes lately.”

It was Cameron’s second game for Western Australia in the carnival, with his tackling pressure being a real focus, having laid 11 tackles in their loss to Vic Metro in Round 1.

“I went it into game aiming to have tackle pressure up.” Cameron said.

The 18-year-old is part of the West Coast Eagles’ Next-Generation Academy and will be eligible to be selected by them at the conclusion of the season, with the Eagles likely to match a late bid on the talented teenager.

“I’m in once a week (at the club) with Drew Petrie for four hours,” Cameron said.

“We just work on game plan analysis, that insight of what footy is.”

The zippy 180cm forward’s speed is eye-catching draw praise from WA talent pathway manager Mick Ablett after his impressive haul in Geelong.

“He kicked one from on 50 metres, so he’s got good penetration in his kicking,” Ablett told Fox Footy.

“But the ones on the run is what the real class small forwards do. They finish off and make the most of their opportunities.”

Cameron has impressed in the WAFL playing for Swan Districts in the Colts competition, averaging 17.4 disposals and 5.5 tackles per game — with Cameron aim in the second half of the year being to “hopefully get some League games.”

As for playing with his brother in the future, Cameron wouldn’t mind making the move to Brisbane but says he is happy to go anywhere to get a chance.

“It’d be dream come true (to get drafted),” Cameron said.

”I didn’t really play back in my younger days because I lived in Queensland and played rugby league and played baseball, but now I’ve just switched on to footy.

“I wouldn’t mind playing with my brother — but it’d be good to play against him. We speak quite a bit and flick a text each week.”

Keep an eye out for Cameron’s striking celebrations in Wednesday’s final round of Under 18 Championships action, live on Fox Footy from 2pm.
