A Quiet Place producer Andrew Form says John Krasinski will definitely be involved with the sequel, which is now in development. The former star of the U.S. version of The Office directed, cowrote, and produced the horror/thriller, in addition to starring as one of the four main characters in the film. Paramount announced that it has set to work on A Quiet Place 2 back at CinemaCon in April, but refrained from revealing the creatives that are involved with the sequel, much less anything about the movie's plot.

Given what happens to Krasinski's character near the end of A Quiet Place, it's safe to assume he won't appear in the followup unless A Quiet Place 2 takes place at the same time or before the first movie. Krasinski, for his part, has discussed some of his ideas for the sequel before, and mentioned that A Quiet Place 2 could focus on other survivors in the world overrun by sound-sensitive monsters established by its predecessor. However, the actor/filmmaker has declined to confirm his involvement with the project, up until this point.

Form recently spoke to Collider as part of the promotional campaign for A Quiet Place's Blu-ray release next month, and told the site that Krasinski is "definitely involved" with the sequel. However, he also indicated that it might be awhile before there's a firm update on A Quiet Place 2, since he and the sequel's other creatives are taking their time to figure its story out:

“It’s such a special movie to us, the experience and everything. It’s easy to rush these and we’ve made movies in the past where we’ve rushed them through and we’ve felt it, and we just don’t wanna do it on this one. We really don’t. We really just wanna take our time and as long as it takes, it takes. It hasto be the right story, just like the first one. It just has to be.”

There are certainly many directions that Krasinski and his collaborators could take on A Quiet Place 2. They could elect to make the franchise into an anthology series (a la fellow Paramount franchise Cloverfield), where each film takes place in the same universe, but focuses on different characters and story genres. Alternatively, A Quiet Place 2 could pick up some time after the ending of the first movie, which set the stage for humankind to fight back against the world's monstrous invaders.

Whatever form A Quiet Place 2 takes, it's good to know the sequel isn't being rushed down the pipeline in order to make a release date. It's similarly encouraging to hear that Krasinski is involved in some capacity, whatever his role in the film's development winds up being. Many horror properties lend themselves to quick turn-around periods between installments and having different filmmakers come in and experiment with their essence (see slasher franchises like Halloween, for example), but A Quiet Place doesn't really feel like one of them.

A Quiet Place is now available in Digital HD. It will be released on Blu-ray on Tuesday, July 10.
