Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange won't cameo in next year's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Last year, Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming featured a small role from Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, who has played a mentor figure for Tom Holland's new incarnation of the wall-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While that relationship was something that fans enjoyed, it was reported that Iron Man wouldn't appear in the sequel, but that didn't mean a different MCU character couldn't appear in his stead. Spider-Man: Far From Home will feature Mysterio as the main villain, and, as a result, a common theory has been that the major cameo will be Doctor Strange - a real sorcerer to take on a fake magician. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Slashfilm had an opportunity to speak to Feige about this rumor. To their surprise, he openly debunked it. "I could be coy about it," he replied, "but no... I don’t wanna get people excited. But Benedict and Holland have liked the idea of working together."

It's unusual for Feige to give such a willing response to a question, but in this case, there's probably a good reason. Assuming there is indeed a major cameo - which still seems highly likely - it can't be long before it becomes public knowledge. Spider-Man: Far From Home has already begun filming in London, and any major Marvel actors are likely to be spotted on set fairly soon. Ironically enough, Feige refused to play ball and even confirm that there will, indeed, be a cameo, despite that being a common belief at this stage.

Marvel is currently attempting to persuade viewers that the deaths in Avengers: Infinity War will be lasting, even though a Spider-Man sequel is currently being filmed. They're doing this by hinting that the movie may actually be set before Infinity War. Unfortunately, that argument runs up against explicit statements from both producer Amy Pascal and even Feige himself. In interviews last year, Pascal stated that the sequel will be set minutes after Avengers 4. Feige, for his part, said that Peter Parker would introduce viewers to a new MCU. It's clear that next year's Avengers 4 will somehow see the "snap" either averted or undone. No doubt Feige is very wary of making any other statements, given he may well spoil other Avengers 4 surprises.
