THERE’LL be new Australian blood in the NBA come the 2018-19 season, with Ryan Broekhoff agreeing to a two-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

The first year of the Melbourne-native’s deal is guaranteed, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Shams Charania; Broekhoff set to join a team that just drafted Luka Doncic, and signed All-Star centre, Deandre Jordan.

Broekhoff had multiple European offers on the table, including one from Turkey’s Anadolu Efes, but he appears to have shown enough in his three-year stint in Russia to attract NBA interest.

“After five years of hard work and dedication to my craft overseas, I am beyond humbled and thrilled to announce I am joining the Dallas Mavericks,” Broekhoff said in a statement on Twitter.

“Having always believed in myself and my ability to one day make it to the NBA, today is truly special. Thank you to my fiancée Katie, family, friends and loved ones who have unconditionally supported me and my vision.

“I am ready to tackle this next challenge and do everything I can to help the Mavs win.”

Playing for Lokomotiv Kuban, Broekhoff averaged a team-high 12.3 points, to go with 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists, in 26.6 minutes per game. His main transferable skill to the NBA is his perimeter shooting, with the 6’7 wing shooting an impressive 50.6 per cent from behind the three-point line.

He would go on to win the VTB United League three-point contest at their 2018 All-Star game.

Broekhoff, 27, can officially sign his new contract with the Mavericks when the Moratorium ends, on July 7 (AEST).

After going undrafted in 2013, Broekhoff signd with Beşiktaş in the Turkish Basketball Super League. After his stint in Turkey, the Australian played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2015 NBA Summer League.

In 2015, Broekhoff signed a three-year deal with Lokomotiv; a team he would excel for, ultimately drawing the attention of multiple NBA teams.

Broekhoff has been a regular for the Australian Boomers since 2014, most recently representing his country at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
