THE Everest winner will earn $6 million in prizemoney for less than 70 seconds work this spring.

With The Everest going to total stakes of $13 million (up $3 million), Racing NSW has adjusted the prizemoney distribution accordingly and the winner will earn $6 million. This is a $200,000 increase from the prize won by Redzel in the inaugural The Everest last year.

However, the changes in stakes are significant for the runners finishing second through to last in the 12-horse field.

The second placegetter in The Everest, run at Royal Randwick on October 13, will earn $2.1 million (up from $1.425m), third gets $1.2 million ($800,000), fourth $820,000 ($400,000), fifth $600,000 ($250,000) and sixth $350,000 ($175,000).

Those sprinters finishing seventh to 12th earn $300,000 for their connections compared to $175,000 last year. These changes reduce the exposure of slot holders who need to invest $600,000 each year to secure a starting position.

PROVINCIAL SERIES TO BLOSSOM IN SPRING
RACING NSW is introducing a lucrative Provincial Spring series for provincial-trained horses only later this year.

The five provincial clubs will host a $50,000 heat to be run as Class 5 set-weigh races. The three placegetters from each will earn a start in the $150,000 Provincial Spring Final (1600m) to be run at Kembla Grange on December 1.

The series begins at Wyong (1350m) on October 21, followed by Kembla on October 27, Hawkesbury on November 8, Newcastle on November 18 and Gosford on November 24.

The concept is based on the successful Provincial Championships series.

BROWN ON TOP OF WORLD
COREY Brown will ride alongside Joao Moreira and Yutaka Take in a Rest Of The World team for the annual Shergar Cup at Ascot in England on Saturday night.

The top class Sydney jockey has had a long-held ambition to ride in the prestigious Shergar Cup and clinched an invitation after winning his second Melbourne Cup on Rekindling last spring.

The jockeys series includes a European team of Gerald Mosse, Andrasch Starke and Per-Anders Graberg. The UK and Ireland are represented by Fran Berry, Pat Gosgrave and Adam Kirby, while the girls’ team is Hayley Turner, Hollie Doyle and Josephine Gordon.
