Black Ops 4 battle royale mode is not going to feature the popular crossplay feature used by Fortnite and other games. Players on PS4 and Xbox One won’t be able to play with or against each other in Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout mode.

According to a post on 4Chan by someone claiming to be one of the developers who worked on Blackout, Treyarch discussed the possibility of crossplay between all consoles and PC in Black Ops 4 Battle Royale. However, the idea was scrapped due to lack of cooperation from Sony.

Still, we can say that there is a strong possibility we may see Black Ops 4 crossplay between PS4 and PC, and Xbox One and PC. But as far as Xbox One and PS4 go, it seems Sony’s policy is still the same as it was with Fortnite.

Microsoft, Nintendo, and Steam have always been cooperative with developers for their implementation of crossplay; but with Sony, it is a different story.

In a recent statement, Bethesda’s Todd Howard blamed Sony for no crossplay in Fallout 76. According to Howard, Sony isn’t as “helpful” as everyone would like.

Based on Sony’s statement on the matter, one can argue that PS4’s overwhelming success puts Sony in a position to deny crossplay requests.

With 79 million PS4s sold around the world and more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms.

Black Ops 4 release date is October 12 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game won’t be on Steam and is only available to download through Battle.net. Hopefully, Black Ops 4 will indeed feature crossplay and this post is inaccurate but judging by Sony’s history with the feature, it is unlikely we will see PS4 and Xbox One players playing together.

As far as the 4Chan post goes, take it with a grain of salt until we hear from Treyarch or Activision. One thing is for sure, Black Ops 4 Blackout mode will be much better with crossplay.

Would you like to see Black Ops 4 Blackout mode to have cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One?
