Unbelievable! Jeremy McGovern wins it for the Eagles after the siren

Recommended Posts

WEST Coast have pulled victory from the jaws of defeat with a goal after the siren sealing a four-point win over Port Adelaide.

Sound familiar?

History repeated itself at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon, but this time it was Jeremy McGovern rather than Luke Shuey who stood up and nailed the set shot to lead their team to victory.

With under 30 seconds on the clock and the Eagles having just got back in touch with a Mark LeCras, ruckman Scott Lycett grabbed the ball in congestion and slammed it on the boot.

Regular defender McGovern out-positioned his opponent, former Eagles Brad Ebert, and launched at the ball for what was essentially, and damningly for the Power, an uncontested mark.

In scenes eerily similar to last year’s elimination final, McGovern never looked like missing.

After a week under the microscope following Andrew Gaff’s brain fade in the western derby, McGovern said the win was massive for more reasons than the four points.

“It was a good opportunity for us to unite,” he told Fox Footy after the game.
