Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Chris Pratt personally addresses the firing of the film's writer and director, James Gunn. In a shocking move by Disney last month, the Marvel filmmaker known for his work in Guardians of the Galaxy franchise was booted out of his job after his almost decade-old offensive tweets were unearthed. Gunn has publicly apologized for the abhorrent social media posts prior to him being hired by the House of Mouse, and again immediately before and after he was dismissed from his directing stint, giving fans the impression that Disney quickly made the decision without thinking things through.

Pratt has yet to personally talk about the issue as unlike his co-stars who chose to share their initial thoughts on social media, he opted to quote a Bible verse in accordance with the matter. Now, however, he finally speaks up with regard to the situation in a brand new interview.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Pratt opened up for the first time about the shocking firing of Gunn, admitting that it's been a difficult time for him and the rest of Guardians of the Galaxy family since the news broke out. Despite this, Pratt says that he, alongside his castmates, stand by the statement that they released with regard to Gunn's firing a couple of weeks ago. The open letter expressed their support of the director and requesting of his possible reinstatement.

“It’s not an easy time. We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a complicated situation for everybody. And you know, we just want to move forward and do what’s right and be the best people we can be.

“I love going to Comic-Con but I ended up not doing a lot of interviews around that time just because it was so shocking. All I know is we put a lot of time, thought and effort into the statement that we released about it. And I think we all kind of want that statement to be essentially what we have to say about it. And we were pretty clear and honest about how we feel.”

Pratt is noticeably much more careful with his words than Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the MCU. The former pro-wrestler-turned-actor has been Gunn's most vocal supporter, being the first from the Guardians of the Galaxy cast to publicly support the director and even threatened to quit the films if Marvel Studios decides not to use his script for the threequel. But that doesn't mean that Pratt is bailing out on the filmmaker, at this point, while those who feel that Gunn was wrongly terminated appreciate Bautista's passion and loyalty, it's for the better for the rest of the cast to stay as calm and civil when talking about the issue to the press. After all, their statement already made it clear that all of them are in solidarity with Gunn.

It's currently unclear what will happen to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which Gunn was supposed to both write and direct, as Marvel Studios remains to be tight-lipped about the situation. That said, recent reports claim that Kevin Feige is working quietly to convince Disney to bring back the director. Aside from helming the forthcoming threequel, the filmmaker was supposed to be instrumental in further exploring the MCU's cosmic side.
