Gold Coast Titans rubbish Tyrone Peachey backflip rumours

GOLD Coast has rubbished reports star signing Tyrone Peachey is trying to backflip on his deal.

Channel 7 reported on Thursday night Peachey’s management had approached the Titans and informed them their client wished to remain at Penrith.

Peachey has signed a three-year deal to join Gold Coast from next season.

The report suggested Peachey was keen to stay at the Panthers in the wake of Anthony Griffin’s sacking.

But Titans coach Garth Brennan told foxsports.com.au those rumours are completely false, claiming Peachey has indicated he intends to honour his contract.

“Tyrone was asked about that during Origin camp and he said back then it (a backflip) wasn’t happening,” Brennan said on Friday.

“We have never heard from his management about it. Tyrone will be playing here next year.

“He was never leaving Penrith because of Anthony Griffin, he was leaving because Penrith couldn’t fit him in with their salary cap.

“I don’t think Anthony Griffin leaving will open up any room in their salary cap.”

Peachey will link with Brennan at the Queensland club next year, having previously worked together when the coach was at Penrith.

Brennan told foxsports.com.au earlier this week Peachey is likely to line up in the centres for the Titans next year.

He’s been playing fullback and in the halves for Penrith in recent weeks, but the Titans will have Michael Gordon and AJ Brimson battling it out for the No. 1 jumper.

Brennan also confirmed the Titans are not in the market for returning star Ben Barba.
