Pupils’ parents sent paedo headmistress suspended over child abuse flowers

CONCERNED parents sent flowers to a paedo headmistress suspended over child abuse images because they thought she was ill.

In reality Rhian DeSouza, 43, was suspended and is now facing jail for making indecent photographs of a child.

DeSouza led the Gellionnen primary school in Swansea, Wales, for more than five years before her suspension.

The school has 187 full-time pupils aged between three and 11.

Swansea Council said the photos do not relate to any current or former pupils, or at any school De Souza has taught at.

One mum said to the Daily Mail: "We even sent her flowers on the day of the school prom because we all thought she was off ill.

"It is just disgusting to think what has been going on - nobody had a clue."

Some parents had received letters stating the police investigation was not directly connected to any children at the school.

Many were outraged it took the authorities weeks to inform them of the reasons she was away.

Another parent said: "If you can't trust your kids' own head teacher, you honestly can't trust anyone."

DeSouza admitted to two charges at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court, of making indecent photographs of a child in May and June this year.

She was suspended in July and will be sentenced on September 14.

In a joint statement, the school and Swansea council said: "We would like to reassure parents that the court proceedings do not relate to any pupil, past or present, at any school the individual has taught at.

"As soon as we were made aware of the investigation by police she was suspended and remains so.

"An acting head teacher is in place and support is being given to ensure there is no impact on the day to day running of the school."

The married mum-of-two was described as a 'pillar of the community' by a neighbour.

An NSPCC Wales spokesman said: "As a head teacher at a primary school DeSouza held a position of great responsibility over children.

"She would have been well aware that the children pictured in online indecent images are victims of crime and suffer horrific abuse for them to be made."
