Nicki Minaj has taken aim at Travis Scott after his album beat hers to the top spot in the U.S. charts at the weekend (18-19Aug18).

The 35-year-old rapper unveiled her anticipated fourth album, Queen, last week but was left seething when it was pipped to the post in the Billboard 200 charts by Travis' Astroworld album, which, according to editors at NME, sold 205,000 copies in its second week of release compared to Queen's 185,000.

Taking to Twitter, Nicki contested the figures and claimed Travis had only reached number one by selling season passes, which provide fans with pre-sale access to his live shows if they purchase the album, via his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, who plugged a link to Travis' website to her 113 million followers alongside the caption, "me and storm ready for tour", referencing the couple’s six-month-old daughter Stormi.

Posting a screenshot of Kylie's post, the Super Bass singer ranted: "Travis sold over 50k of these. With no requirement of redeeming the album! With no dates for a tour, etc. I spoke to him. He knows he doesn’t have the #1 album this week (sic)."

In a follow-up post, she continued: "I put my blood sweat & tears into writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling ppl (people) to come see her & Stormi. lol (laughing out loud). Im actually laughing. #Queen broke the record of being number 1 in 86 countries. Thank Jesus & thank you to my fans (sic)."

Nicki also threw shade at music streaming service Spotify, claiming it had failed to promote her album for two days as "punishment" after she debuted the tracks on her new Beats 1 show, Queen Radio, 10 minutes before they were released on their site.

"Spotify put drake’s face on every playlist but told me they’d have to teach me a lesson for playing my music 10 mins early on #QueenRadio”, she blasted. "Even tho they’ve been giving away my music for free for years & I am one of the top Spotify artists of all time (sic)."

The star later clarified that her comments were made with "sarcasm/dry humor" but promised to open up on the subject further on the next episode of Queen Radio, which airs on Tuesday.
