Zinedine Zidane reveals his desire to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

ZINEDINE Zidane has reportedly told friends he wants to replace Jose Mourinho, while Real Madrid are putting together a last-ditch attempt to lure Chelsea’s star midfielder.

That and more in this edition of the Rumour Mill!

ZIDANE TO LIFT OLD TRAFFORD GLOOM?
According to The Daily Mail Zinedine Zidane has told friends he expects to be offered the Manchester United job if Jose Mourinho is sacked.

Mourinho is facing the biggest test of his time in charge at United after a turbulent summer that has left him at odds with Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward and record signing Paul Pogba.

United have publicly backed Mourinho and played down speculation in France that Zidane could replace him.

‘Why would we discuss him when there is no job available?’ said a senior source earlier this week.

However, it’s understood that the Old Trafford hierarchy recognise the need for a contingency plan if Mourinho’s position becomes untenable.

Zidane believes he is the leading candidate to take over and has told associates that he would be very interested in managing United.

HAZARD SAGA CONTINUES
The Premier League transfer window may be shut, but Chelsea still face a battle to cling onto their star midfielder.

The Sun are reporting that Real Madrid are preparing to test the Blues’ resolve by plotting a late move for Eden Hazard.

But Chelsea insist their star man is not for sale.

Los Blancos are desperate to fill the void following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus this summer and they have identified the Belgian winger as the man to fill those enviable boots.

Hazard, 27, still has two years to run on his current deal at Stamford Bridge.

PSG COULD BE FORCED TO SELL MBAPPE
As Real Madrid continue life after Ronaldo, the Spanish giants will try and sign Kylian Mbappe if Paris Saint-Germain are punished for Financial Fair Play violations.

According to The Sun the treble Champions League winners expect the French club to be sanctioned for breaching FFP “imminently”.

Mbappe, 19, was a sensation in Russia and became the first teenager since Pele to score in a World Cup final.

PSG signed Mbappe on loan last season, with the £162million (A$285m) fee to be paid to former club Monaco by next week.

But the Qatari-owned French club could be forced to balance their books to the tune of millions if they do not convince UEFA they have broken even.

ROSE FACING SPURS EXIT
Danny Rose could still leave Tottenham this month with Paris Saint-Germain emerging as an option for him.

The England international is yet to play in Tottenham’s two opening Premier League fixtures, with manager Mauricio Pochettino opting for Ben Davies at left back.

After turning down a loan move to Schalke this summer, the Evening Standard report that the 28-year-old is open to a move to a European club before the transfer window shuts later this month.
