Last month reports emerged that 9th-gen Intel Coffee Lake refreshes will come with soldered heatspreaders instead of thermal interface material. Now a new report has emerged which confirms that Intel Core i9-9900K will come with soldered heatspreader.

The report comes from Videocardz, who claims that a source of theirs has shared internal documents with the site detailing that the upcoming 9th-gen Intel Coffee Lake refreshes will come with soldered heatspreaders.

These Intel Coffee Lake refreshes include Intel Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K, and Core i5-9600K which will probably launch by the end of 2018 and Intel Core i5-9400 will launch in Q1 2019.

According to the site, the Intel Core i9-9900K has been confirmed to come with a soldered heatspreader instead of instead of thermal interface material.

Before we delve into the specs for the Intel Core i9-9900K let me explain why soldering the heastspreader will be beneficial.

The soldered heatspreader will allow for Intel Core i9-9900K and the rest of the CPUs included in Intel Coffee Lake refreshes to better manage the temperatures at higher clock speeds.

Meaning this will allow the 9th-gen Intel Coffee Lake refreshes to achieve higher clock speeds compared to 8th-gen Intel CPUs.

As for the specs, the report suggests that Intel Core i9-9900K will feature “8-cores/16-threads, and it will clock up to 5.0 GHz in single-core turbo mode. This is the first (and only) Core i9 part for ‘S-Series’”.

Not only that, Intel has let go of the Core i3 CPUs as the report suggests that 9th-gen Intel Coffee Lake refreshes will include “three Core series: i9, i7, and i5”.

Furthermore, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K will not support HyperThreading.

Speaking of Intel, ARM has openly challenged Intel Core i5-U for the mobile CPU market.

ARM will be directly competing with Intel Core i5-U CPUs. The first of these ARM CPUs is the already announced ARM Cortex-A76 which promises 35% performance increase compared to previous-gen mobile CPUs.

What do you think of the Intel Core i9-9900K being soldered along with the rest of the 9th-gen Intel Coffee Lake refreshes? Let us know in the comments.
