Bethesda made quite a splash when it announced that the upcoming Fallout 76 won’t be releasing on Steam and will be exclusive to its Bethesda.net platform. However, that is not the only Bethesda game that will be skipping Steam as Doom Eternal coming to Valve’s digital PC platform is unlikely.

Speaking with IGN, Bethesda’s Pete Hines talked about the company’s plans to release its games exclusively to Bethesda.Net.

However, he noted that Bethesda didn’t explicitly said that it will be releasing all of its games through Bethesda.net. He added that just because Fallout 76 is not coming to Steam doesn’t mean the rest of the Bethesda titles including Doom Eternal will not be coming to Steam.

However, Hines was asked specifically about Doom Eternal coming to Steam to which he noted that Bethesda hasn’t decided yet if Doom Eternal will be coming to Steam or not.

If Bethesda decided to not release Doom Eternal to Steam will be surprising since all of the released Doom titles are available on Steam.

Making Fallout 76 exclusive to Bathesda.net is somewhat understandable since its an online multiplayer game.

We already have a lot of PC clients from many developers which we have to install in order to play games like Ubisoft’s Uplay, Blizzard’s Batttle.net, EA’s Origin and Epic Games’ Epic Launcher.

Requiring a different PC client for every other game is quite messy since PC users will not only have to manage these PC clients but also have to remember their log-in credentials.

Speaking of the game, Bethesda has also hinted mod support for Doom Eternal. However, the studio noted that it won’t be available right away at launch.

According to game director Director Marty Stratton, the studio made some technical decisions with the game engine that focused on other stuff than mods and have been trying to correct it for past several years in order to bring Doom Eternal mod support.

Furthermore, Bethesda has also explained why Doom Eternal isn’t called Doom 2.

According to Stratton, the reason behind it the game being Doom Eternal is Doom 2016 as the problem stems from there saying “You hear us say it all the time, we call it Doom 2016, and the internet has called it Doom 2016”.

What do you think of Doom Eternal possibly skipping Steam and being a Bethesda.net exclusive title? What are your thoughts on developers releasing their own PC client for their PC games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
