Hello Games’ Sean Murray went into hiding after the backlash over No Man’s Sky. The developer put his head down to work hard for redemption and it is safe to say he has succeeded.  The man has now come back into the limelight to discuss the future of No Man’s Sky.

Speaking to IGN, Sean Murray admitted that the studio discussed the game too early. Moreover, severe marketing mistakes were made during the early stages of the game’s release window. “We messed up,” he said.

We messed up some of the easy things, in that we talked about the game too early. We were really excited when we talked about the game. We talked about features as they were in development. Press would say to us, ‘It’s so nice to get to sit down with a developer and just talk, you know? You guys don’t seem scripted.’ And we were like, ‘Yeah, we don’t. Why does everyone else do that?’.

I now understand why everyone does that.

Murray is using this lesson to make sure the studio doesn’t talk about unfinished ideas. Ideas that are still under development. This is also a lesson to Star Citizen devs but we doubt they will pay attention. Star Citizen has been in development for a long time, taking people’s money by selling unfinished ideas that may never make it to the game at all.

No Man’s Sky saw the largest number of concurrent players since 2016. The number rose soon after the release of a major update that made significant changes to the game.

The game is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Steam reviews are mostly positive due to the recent changes. Fans are praising every aspect that’s overhauled and fixed by Hello Games.
