Nvidia GeForce RTX Graphics Cards Provides 1000X Performance 10 Years In Advance

There has been a lot of anticipation around Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards and we finally have an official announcement from Nvidia. The main highlights are the increased horsepower that the Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards provide as compared to the Pascal series as well as the support for Ray Tracing.

Nvidia CEO started off by admitting that there were plenty of leaks but he also claimed that the leaks were wrong and that people would be surprised. He also talked about RTX not being enough and how Deep Learning also needed to be added into the mix. Ray Tracing is an effective technique as it only captures the rays that meet the eyes. Trillions of rays do not meet the eyes and that is where Nvidia RTX shines.

Nvidia GeForce RTX Graphics Cards

Nvidia has been working with Microsoft and Epic in order to support Nvidia RTX. Epic has been able to provide support for the new technology in Unreal Engine. We also saw the previous Nvidia RTX demo featuring stormtroopers.

The Turing chip is the second largest chip that Nvidia has ever made. The chip provides 14 TFLOPs and 14 TIPs of performance. All this has been provided to provide hybrid rendering or RTX. Turing can be looked at a supercomputer with just one GPU instead of 4. The Turing chip was able to render the demo scene 8 times faster than the GTX 1080 Ti, the top of the line Pascal GPU.

With the new Tensor core, the chip is able to generate pixels that have not been finished yet, while looking right at the same time.

Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080

One of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards is the RTX 2080 and it will be available for $699 US. The card is based on the next generation Turing architecture and has better performance than the GTX 1080 Ti.

The RTX 2080 Founder’s Edition will cost $699 but you can expect the custom graphics cards to cost even more. You will need to wait and see what pricing the graphics cards will have but these numbers should give you a good idea of what the custom cards will cost.
