From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is releasing next March, bringing a new era of video games to the Soulsborne developing studio. Its name is more than meets the eye as the Marketing head of the studio revealed during an interview during Gamescom, you will actually die twice every time.

What we were used to with From Software was pure unfair death. We were one shotted, dropped down cliffs even stomped to death in all previous Souls titles. However, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won’t follow the same pattern. As we already knew, the game will indeed be as difficult as the Dark Souls series but it will include an important additional element, the Ressurection feature.

As Yasuhiro Kitao, From Software marketing representative revealed at today’s IGN Live at Gamescom, you can only resurrect once in each battle. For instance, if you are fighting a boss and it “crashes you to pieces” you can resurrect only once, find a strategic way to get the upper hand but if you don’t do that end die, that’s the end of the line for you. You’ll have to go back and retry the whole fight again.

While players may think that this is too easy compared to Dark Souls, From Software has already made clear that the game will most possibly be more difficult than their previous ones. The resurrection method can even be seen as a strategy, to get the boss where you want to in order to position yourself and deal the final blow.

Apart from gameplay reasons, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is named like that for another one. As Kitao pointed out during the interview, you’ll be playing a ninja who has been betrayed and left for dead, stripped of his hand during the process. The game is about his road to finding his old master and redeem himself for what happened.

Kitao also pointed out that the resurrection mechanic might be different when the game launches. For now, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available for playtesting at Gamescom, while its official release is set for   March 22nd, 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
