Hairbrained Schemes has announced a new Battletech Flashpoint expansion at Gamescom, showing off a number of new mission types, new mechs, and new maps to fight on. The expansion is the first to come to the Battletech game since it released in April of this year exclusively on the PC.

Battletech tells the story of the player character and their custom-built mercenary company as they help to free the Aurigan Coalition from the tyrannical government that overthrew its legitimate royal family. However, in order to do that, you have to gain more money and mechs through missions, and the Flashpoint expansion will help in this.

The Battletech Flashpoint expansion includes a number of new mechanics. A new map biome, a Tropical one, allows you to send your mechs stomping around sunny beaches and alien forests. New Battlemechs, such as the Hatchetman, the Crab, and the Cyclops, each of which can perform different functions in battle.

The titular mechanic, however, the Flashpoints, are the expansion’s main draw, being short, multi-mission stories that you’ll have to be careful in, as they don’t allow you to repair your mechs between missions, meaning that you’ll have to be very careful from mission to mission to keep your pilots and mechs operating.

Finally, a new type of mission has also been revealed. The “Target Acquisition” mission type puts your mech lance in the role of a King of the Hill game, forcing you to capture three different target areas on a map in order to claim victory.

The Battletech Flashpoint expansion is coming out in November, so you’ll have plenty of time to brush up on your mech skills before it comes out, especially if you’re still new to the game. If you’ve already beaten it, then you shouldn’t have any trouble. Battletech is currently available exclusively for the PC.
