The NYC three piece performed a set in Brooklyn last night (August 24)

To celebrate the release of their sixth studio album, ‘Marauder’, Interpol performed a live set in Brooklyn at House of Vans last night (August 24). It was the last gig to be held at the venue before it’s imminent closure.

The band played a host of songs from the new album and included fan favourites from across their career such as ‘Lights’, ‘Not Even Jail’ and ‘Take You on a Cruise’. They also debuted ‘Complications’ for the first time live.

On Twitter, the band wrote: “Looking forward to celebrating Marauder at House of @Vans_66 Brooklyn tonight. We’ll be live streaming part of the show on Facebook and YouTube from 9:45pm EST, tune in.”

The album is the first since 2014’s ‘El Pintor’ and received much acclaim on its release yesterday.

Speaking about the new album, NME wrote: ‘Marauder’ takes the punchy, warm sound of 2014 predecessor ‘El Pintor’ and folds in some much darker, more menacing flourishes.”

“It’s refreshing to see a band of their legacy take such a risk…Interpol stand alone, free from corrupting influences, marauding on their own singular and instinctive quest to do themselves justice.”

Speaking to NME about their latest album, Banks said: “I think that there’s something very direct to this record that maybe sets it apart from some of the other ones. There’s a quality of minimalism that we tried to preserve.

“We try to keep it more faithful to what we were trying to achieve in the room without letting Pro-Tools make you want to ‘perfect’ anything. I would just play the songs top to bottom, because Fridmann [Dave, producer] got really excited by that possibility. It’s a very minimal, stripped-down rock recording – and I don’t think a lot of records get made that way these days.”

Interpol also released a new video for the opening song from ‘Marauder’, ‘If You Really Love Nothing’, earlier this week. It stars Kristen Stewart and Finn Wittrock.

As well as two intimate album launch shows in London this month, the band will tour the UK and Europe in November. Dates for the November tour are listed in full below.
