Dylan Napa handed grade-three suspension for ugly hit on Andrew McCullough

Recommended Posts

DYLAN Napa will miss three games if he takes the early guilty plea, and four weeks if he unsuccessfully appeals the suspension.

The NRL match review committee deemed his hit on Andrew McCullough on Saturday night warranted a grade-three charge for dangerous contact.

Napa knocked McCullough out when his head collided with the opponent’s jaw in a sickening incident during the Allianz Stadium fixture.

The tackle gone wrong looked eerily similar to one that flawed Broncos prop Korbin Sims earlier in the season, resulting in a broken jaw to the prop.

That Round 11 incident wasn’t punished and Napa said at the time that he had no intention of changing his tackling technique.

The NRL has sent a clear warning that his head-first style won’t be tolerated anymore.

Fox League experts Danny Buderus and Braith Anasta thought the NRL should’ve taken stronger action over the Sims incident, or at least warned the enforcer.

His teammate Cooper Cronk suggested the length of the suspension was “thereabouts”.

“I feel for Dylan but obviously I also feel for Andrew McCullough... Three weeks is probably thereabouts, three weeks gives him a chance [of returning].”
