Missed shepherd cruels Roosters as Mitchell gets binned later in the play

WHEN Latrell Mitchell was marched for 10 with the Roosters 12 points adrift, the Fox League experts agreed Mitchell wouldn’t have needed to commit the professional foul if a clear obstruction call was made earlier in the play.

Before Mitchell came from an off-side position to try and shut down the Broncos attacking raid, Anthony Milford switched the point of the attack back towardsa the goalposts.

Matt lodge collected the pill and drifted cross-field running directly behind one of his teammates.

“Obstruction, old fashioned shepherd,” yelled commentator Andrew Voss. “It was allowed to continue.”

Instead of receiving a relieving penalty, the home side lost their gun centre to the sin bin and the Broncos received another attacking centre.

“We wouldn’t have got to that part of the field if we would’ve come back for the obstruction with Matt Lodge,” reasoned Braith Anasta.

“Normally you have to hit the deck in that situation, normally you have to stop.”

Voss was incensed. “It’s been a penalty since 1908 Gaz [Mark Gasnier].”

Asked about the incident in the post-match presser, Roosters coach Trent Robinson couldn’t believe the whistleblowers missed it.

“Yeah it was pretty clear [it was an obstruction], obviously shouldn’t have really got to that point [of Mitchell being sent to the sin bin], but then if they do let that go then he’s not allowed to make that tackle,” he said.

“Yeah I think it was pretty clear for everyone to see.”
