With HMD Global's recent purchase of the PureView trademark from Microsoft, the Nokia brand is now reunited with the branding used on some of the cameras found on Nokia smartphones. The name made its debut with the Nokia 808 PureView, a Symbian powered handset that launched in June 2012. The phone featured a 41MP sensor in back and a .3MP camera in front. The Windows Phone powered Nokia Lumia 1020 was released the following year sporting a PureView camera carrying a 41MP sensor (view image at the top of this article), and a 1.2MP selfie snapper in front. Both models also featured a Xenon flash and Zeiss lenses.

Other Lumia models also included the PureView branding for their cameras including:

  • Nokia Lumia 920
  • Nokia Lumia 925
  • Nokia Lumia 928
  • Nokia Lumia Icon
  • Nokia Lumia 830
  • Nokia Lumia 930
  • Nokia Lumia 1020
  • Nokia Lumia 1520
  • Microsoft Lumia 950
  • Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

HMD Global currently produces Android powered Nokia phones under a license granted by Nokia. HMD acquired the PureView brand from Microsoft on August 23rd. Microsoft had received the trademark when it purchased Nokia's Devices and Services unit for more than $7 billion back in 2013. We could see HMD Global use the PureView name on future Nokia smartphones.
