Nat Medhurst hurting in mind and body after Super Netball grand final

A gutted Nat Medhurst was nursing a suspected cracked rib after yesterday’s shattering three-goal loss to the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Super Netball grand final at Perth Arena.

The gun goal attack was unsure exactly when she picked up the injury, but said it was nothing compared to the emotional hurt she was feeling in the wake of the defeat.

“Some time in the last quarter, I think, or maybe in the third,” Medhurst said.

“It’s not fun trying to breathe at the moment. But I think that sort of pales in comparison to not getting the job done.

“I think we’ve shown a lot of grit but I hope it hurts as well. It sure as hell does for me. I know I was pretty emotional.

“It was a massive missed opportunity for us. Obviously we were coming up against a great side. But we had so many opportunities to push it out and to capitalise on the ball. We didn’t do that.

“It hurts because you just sit there and automatically start replaying a lot of things in your head. You look at it as a whole and it was a great season but I’m here to win premierships and we let it slip.”

Medhust’s battle with South African star Karla Pretorius loomed as one of the major factors in the game.

While Fever managed to keep Pretorius to two intercepts, Medhurst looked far from her best in an intense contest.

Medhurst, 34, believed the match-up played out as expected.
