AUSTRALIA’s top trainer Darren Weir and the Lindsay Park stable dominate nominations for Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville.

Weir has four nominations in the feature while the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig stable have entered six horses in Adelaide.

Weir used last year’s race to launch the comeback of Gailo Chop who won the Penny Edition before being placed behind Bonneval in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes, winning the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes and then running fifth behind Winx in the Cox Plate.

That form continued earlier this year when he won the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes and Group 1 Ranvet in Sydney while he was runner-up in the Australian Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Weir has former Japanese galloper Danon Liberty and Melbourne Cup hopeful Red Cardinal nominated, along with Theanswermyfriend who has won his past two starts and Night’s Watch who has won three of his past six.

Danon Liberty made his Australian debut when 15th behind Showtime in the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield, while Red Cardinal, who finished 11th in last year’s Melbourne Cup finished 16th in the same race.

Both Danon Liberty and Red Cardinal are also nominated in the $1m Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on the same day.

Lindsay Park’s six nominations include Fastnet Temptest, Mihany, Muraaqeb, Petrology, Poetic Dream and Seaburge.

Fastnet Temptest has won two of seven Australian starts and hasn’t raced since chasing home Land Of Plenty in the R A Lee Stakes at Morphettville in May.
