He also produced early material by The 1975's old project 'Drive Like I Do'

Spring King‘s Tarek Musa has opened up about his teenage years skating with The 1975, and producing some of their early work as ‘Drive Like I Do’.

Earlier this month, 1975 frontman Matty Healy paid tribute to the ‘genius’ of Musa – revealing that they worked together on the track ‘Scary Monsters’ by the band in their early days.

“I used to go to the same skate park as the guys,” Musa told NME backstage at this weekend’s Reading Festival. “Andy our guitarist, went to school with Matt, Adam, George and Ross, and I would always end up hanging out at their school – even though I didn’t go there. From that point on, we all got to know each other. They would come over and we’d work on some songs together, which was really fun.

“I was maybe 16 or 17, and so were they so it was just a load of fun. We’d go to the same house parties and see each other around town. It was really nice for Matt to Tweet that old memory for us. It was a great time; being young and just being free and not having anything to worry about except for skating.”

So could we see the old friends all working together again?

“Yeah, let’s do it Matt,” replied Musa. “Let’s produce some Drive Like I Do stuff. I’ve got my chops up now. I’ve been mixing and producing bands for 10 years now. Let’s go for it.”

Spring King release new album ‘A Better Life’ on August 31.
