Jake and Tom Trbojevic unhappy with Manly management

THE drama at Manly continues to bubble away with Jake and Tom Trbojevic said to be unhappy with the treatment of coach Trent Barrett.

With discussions ongoing over Barrett’s future, there were reports he could be sacked this week with assistant John Cartwright to take over.

But those suggestions were shot down by Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn who confirmed Barrett would still be the coach for the team’s final game of the season against Brisbane.

Despite Penn’s comments, Barrett still appears to be a dead-man walking at the club.

“Behind the scenes there’s a lot going on at Manly,” Fox Sports’ chief NRL reporter James Hooper told The Big League Wrap.

“I’m told the Trbojevic brothers are quite frustrated at the situation.

“They’ve relayed those concerns to the management of the club that they’re not happy with the treatment of Trent.

“There was a report that started kicking around on social media suggesting that Daly Cherry-Evans could somehow be going to the Brisbane Broncos and Jack Bird coming down to Manly — that’s been hosed.

“I spoke to Daly Cherry-Evans’ management and they said absolutely not, that will not be happening, that’s never been discussed.”

Both Cherry-Evans (2023) and the Trbojevic brothers (2020) have some time to run on their contracts, and former NRL star Michael Ennis said the club should be doing everything they can to retain the latter long-term.

“(Cherry-Evans is a) huge part of the club, he’s one of their best players,” Ennis told the show.

“So too are the Trbojevic brothers. They can ill-afford to lose those two boys. They bleed maroon and white and they are the future of the club.

“Daly Cherry-Evans, yes, he’s on an enormous contract, but given the performances … he’s been good at stages and other times he’s been not so good.

“In recent weeks he’s shown his support publicly towards Trent Barrett who won’t be there.

“It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see Daly on a different adventure, but not the Trbojevic brothers.

“They just cannot afford to let them go.
