Mum, 49, ‘repeatedly called police about threats from daughter’s ex-boyfriend

A SUSPECTED killer who allegedly stabbed his ex-lover and her mum to death in street was 'repeatedly' reported to police over his 'threatening behaviour'.

West Midlands Police have raided a number of addresses overnight in the hunt for Janbaz Tarin, 21.

Raneem Oudeh, 22 and Khaola Saleem, 49, "screamed like animals" after being stabbed yards from their home in Solihull, West Mids, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Their bloodied bodies were found on a grass verge on the quiet housing estate by West Midlands Police at around 12.30am yesterday.

The force has referred itself to a watchdog over previous contact with the victims and have been accused of ignoring their pleas for help.

A neighbour told The Times: "The mother told me they were having a bit of bother with her daughter's ex-boyfriend.

"They had recently split up and he kept coming around. They were worried enough to call the police a few times but they weren't taken seriously."

Wanted Tarin claims on his Facebook page to be a cashier and has posted several pictures of himself working behind the counter at a convenience store.

Tarin, understood to be from Afghanistan, has also posted messages of support his homeland including “Save Syria” and signed petitions in support of Palestine.

Last night cops raided an address where Tarin's family are believed to live around five miles away in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham.

Pictures showed officers standing outside the property moments after they booted down the door of the house where relatives were inside.

It's believed the suspect, who police are urging the public not to approach, wasn't at the house.

Residents on the street described him as “dodgy” and confirmed that he was the eldest brother in his family.

It's unclear when the couple split, but Raneem posted a quote on Facebook in December last year saying: "‘A strong woman will automatically stop trying if she feels unwanted. She won’t fix it or beg, she’ll just walk away"

Her grieving family members yesterday said: "Our family is devastated with the loss of our loved ones.

"We would like to give thanks for all the love and and support we have received, we kindly request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

A relative, who asked not to be named, came to deliver a meal of rice to other family members.

He said: "We are going to request that the family are given a bit of space, that is all I can say."

Neighbours said they sometimes heard noisy rows coming from the house where the victims lived.

An elderly neighbour said Raneem was a young mum herself with a daughter aged around 15 months old and believed her to be a student.

They told the Birmingham Mail: "She was at college so she was in and out, and then the next thing we know she’s pregnant.

"She sometimes would wear a head scarf other days have her hair all flowing.

"We saw a white van around there a few times and she was often talking to the man in it."

The neighbour said that as well as Raneem's child, there were two other young children living at the house - a teenager and a young boy aged around eight or nine.

Another neighbour said they had seen a man visiting the property in a white van but bizarrely crouched down behind it as if he was hiding.

They told the Daily Mail: "The daughter did not always live there. She used to come and go – she has a little girl about 15 months old.

"There has been a man in a Thrifty van knocking about a couple of times. On one occasion he came in a rental van.

"Me and my husband thought it was strange that when he got outside he crouched down so as not to be seen outside the house."

Wendy Baker, 76, who lived nearby with her husband told the newspaper she knew the women to say hello to and they were "nice and friendly", adding that there were "always lots of comings and goings".

Det Insp Caroline Corfield, of West Midlands Police, said: “We’ve been working flat out to apprehend Tarin since the early hours of this morning, following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“As we have so far not been able to locate Tarin, I’m now asking for the public’s help in tracing him.

“If anyone knows where he is or thinks they may have seen him, I’d urge them to ring 999 immediately.

“If there’s anyone out there who may be shielding him through a sense of misguided loyalty, they need to be aware that they are committing an offence and will be prosecuted.

“My message to Tarin would be that it’s vitally important that we get to speak to you as soon as possible, so please do the right thing and let us know where you are.”

Chief Superintendent Bas Javid, Solihull policing commander, said: “Tragedies like this are incredibly rare, but that does not do anything to diminish the awful nature of what has happened in Solihull today.

“I’m sure the thoughts of everyone in the borough and beyond will be with the family and friends of Raneem and Khaola.

“We’ll support them through the difficult times ahead, and will continue to work with the community to provide reassurance and support wherever it’s needed."

A neighbour left shocked by the brutal slaying said: “It is a quiet resident street and I have lived here for 15 years, my wife has lived here for 25.

"You never get any trouble, the only time anything happens is when the schools are in.

"Last night we heard the sirens and the flashing of the ambulances, we looked down from the window and saw something serious was going on out in the front garden but I saw very little.

"They just surrounded the incident, they knocked on the door and said that a fairly major incident had taken place.

Another resident, who also did not want to be named, added: "I'm shocked, nothing like this has happened before, the only ambulances you see are for old people in the neighbourhood, it's knocked people for six."

One woman, who did not want to give her name, said: "I thought it was foxes screaming. She was absolutely screaming her head off.

"He wasn't speaking English, that's for sure. He shouted something and then ran off.

"There was a lot of screaming and shouting and then I saw the guy run off. About a minute later I saw him leave in a van."

One dad-of-two who lives nearby said: "Police knocked on my door and asked for some towels, so I knew at that point it was serious."

Relatives of the victims have been seen entering the police cordon throughout the day with some in tears and others in visible shock.

The area has been cordoned off by police who are combing the scene and trawling CCTV footage from nearby.

West Midlands Police force said it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because it had previously had contact with the victims' family.

A spokesman for the IOPC said: "I can confirm we have received a referral and that it will be assessed."
