Honor 8X Max press renders confirm tiny notch, reveal color options

Tomorrow, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is holding its own press conference at IFA in Berlin. At the event, the company is expected to announce a few new smartphones and, while no specific details have been confirmed by the brand as of yet, recent rumors are pointing towards these being the Honor 8X and 8X Max, the latter of which has just leaked out in new press renders.

Coinciding with previous leaks, the new smartphone adopts a slightly modified design language that makes use of a water drop-like notch up front which itself is home to the front-facing camera. This sits directly below the new in-ear speaker, which has now been moved to the very edge of the aluminum frame. Elsewhere on the front, either side of the display includes rather slim bezels which eventually join together at the bottom in the form of a relatively thick skin that is home to the Honor branding.

Following in the footsteps of most 2018 smartphones, the Honor 8X Max also makes use of a premium glass panel on the rear that, unsurprisingly, sports a vertical dual-camera setup in the corner. This setup, much like Honor and Huawei’s other devices, is backed up by multiple AI software enhancements that should help improve the overall look of photos. On a separate note, a circular fingerprint scanner is included on the rear.

In terms of the internal details, Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 660 is set to be present alongside 4GB of RAM. This should be backed up by Android 9 Pie straight out of the box alongside EMUI 9.0. Also worth noting is the 4,900mAh battery which will be keeping the huge 7.12-inch display on.

At this moment in time, it’s unclear how the Honor 8X Max will be priced upon launch. However, it should be available to purchase in China alongside the regular Honor 8X on September 5 and will be available in black and blue, as revealed by the renders. Additionally, North America is expected to receive at least one of the two smartphones eventually.
