I would suggest you, and anyone else who is using OpenOffice to replace it with LibreOffice, as development on the former suite has been stalled and the latter is being actively developed.

It's faster and includes better compatibility with .doc/.docx files.

I used to use Microsoft Office for many years. Then I used OpenOffice for some time until it started screwing up on me. Now I use LibreOffice and I really love it!

I'm still in the dark ages with MS Office 2003. I don't like the whole "thing" at the top on Office 2007 onwards. Boo to the people who send me .docx files. At least Gmail opens them for me to read. :)
