"We are all utterly devastated".

Gary Numan has cancelled a show on his US tour after the singer’s tour bus fatally hit an elderly man.

The electro pioneer was arriving in Cleveland when his tour bus hit the 91-year-old man as it made a right turn, killing him instantly.

The accident reportedly occurred close to Cleveland’s House of Blues, where he was scheduled to play on Monday evening.

“We are all utterly devastated by the fatal accident involving our tour bus earlier today”, Numan responded in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Everyone of us is filled with a sadness that made it impossible to even consider playing our show this evening, and out of respect it would have been entirely wrong.

“At the moment all we can think about are the people affected by this terrible tragedy and to them we send all our love.”

The 45-year-old driver of the tour bus was not arrested following the accident but police continue to investigate. The identity of the 91-year-old man is yet to be revealed.

Numan achieved huge popularity in the 1980s with hit singles including ‘Cars’ and ‘Are Friends Electric?’. He permanently relocated to Los Angeles in 2012.

In 2013, a car also came extremely close to smashing through a tour bus window as he travelled through East Sussex.
