i tweaked my Media Player Classic to handle everything. VLC is nice and all, but it doesnt cut it for me mainly because of the patches are annoying when I usually skip

VLC for me... Does a nice job without the need for separate codec packs every other week. :P

PotPlayer is fantastic with the ability to allocate different filters for different containers/formats.

Also, please don't use VLC, it has inferior picture quality to an even lightly configured mpc-hc or PotPlayer.. vlc is decent if your video is great from the get-go, but anything that has banding (and that's the majority of what's out there), and the difference becomes very sensible with something that uses ffdshow->deband
