Thom Yorke has shared another mesmerising taster of the soundtrack to Suspiria. Check out ‘Open Again’ below.

Following previous offerings ‘Has Ended‘, ‘Volk‘, and ‘Suspirium‘, the latest cut ‘Open Again’ is a dissonant and dizzying soundscape that leans on the Radiohead frontman’s most esoteric side.

“Suspiria is one of those legendary soundtracks. It took a few months to even contemplate the idea,” said Yorke of his work on the soundtrack. “It was one of those moments in your life where you want to run away but you know you’ll regret it if you do.

“I watched the original film several times, and I loved it because it was of that time, an incredibly intense soundtrack. Obviously [1977 soundtrack composers] Goblin and Dario worked incredibly closely when they did it together.”

Nonetheless, Yorke said he tried hard not to replicate the original. “There was no point, other than what I found interesting was they used repetition of motifs, again and again and again,” he said. “Part of your mind was saying, ‘Please, I don’t want to hear this anymore.’”

“That was really great,” he said. “There’s a way of repeating in music that can hypnotize. I kept thinking to myself that it’s a form of making spells. So when I was working in my studio I was making spells. I know it sounds really stupid, but that’s how I was thinking about it.”

Yorke also recently revealed how he almost came to work on the soundtrack to Fight Club.

“Things sort of come into my office, but they haven’t really got to me,” Yorke told BBC 6 Music about past soundtrack offers. “The one I remember is one from years ago after we’d finished ‘OK Computer’ and I was completely gaga.

“They asked me to do Fight Club. They sent me the script and Ed and Brad Pitt wrote to me and said ‘We really think you should do this’. I went ‘Nah, I can’t’. I couldn’t. I wouldn’t have been able to do it then, but every time I see the film I go ‘Oh…’.”

Thom Yorke releases the ‘Susperia’ soundtrack on October 26.
