George Michael to be honoured with London tribute concert

It's to mark the singer's 56th birthday.

George Michael will reportedly be honoured with a star-studded tribute concert to mark the late singer’s 56th birthday.

According to The Mirror, the show will be held at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on June 25 next year – lead by a line up that includes his former backing singer Shirley Lewis, bassist Deon Estus and guitarist Michael Brown. It’s being overseen by Chris Cameron, who was previously at the helm as George Michael’s musical director for some of his biggest tours.



“George’s family are onboard and very supportive of this…it was important to seek their permission. It’s wonderful that a date is the diary at last to celebrate George’s amazing life and music”, a source revealed.

“There will be a number of special guests on the night and, over the coming months, organisers will finalise those taking part. It’s all being kept under wraps.”

Although the full line-up is yet to be revealed, it’s claimed that Geri Halliwell could be among the star guests for the concert.

Shirley Lewis, who previously backed Michael on vocals, said: “This started out as a private event for the GM band and singers, for us to share a night together, in honour of a man and friend who we all miss terribly. George means so much to us and we haven’t been together since we heard that awful news on that Christmas day.

“We, the band and singers are like a family and we are coming together to remember someone who we loved and who loved us.”

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Michael’s unreleased music will feature in a forthcoming new rom-com, Last Christmas.

The movie, which is currently set for release on November 15, 2019, will star Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) will direct the film, while Emma Thompson has co-written the script.
