Former Brazil international Ronaldinho had various assets seized on Wednesday after failing to pay a fine relating to an environmental case against his institute.

The department's attorney general issued a warrant for a search and seizure of the home Ronaldinho shares with his brother Roberto Assis Moreira, a businessman, in Cavalhada in the south of Porto Alegre.

Local authorities seized two BMW cars, a Mercedes and a painting as well as televisions, snooker and bar football tables as part of an operation to recuperate money owed from a fine for the building of the Instituto Ronaldinho Gaucho.

It is alleged the construction of the building work undertaken from October to December 2007 caused environmental damage.

A native forest was cut down, and there were also drainage issues and the unlicensed movement of land. Ronaldinho's lawyer, Sergio Queiroz, confirmed the seizures to Globoesporte, and that a meeting with Ana Marchesan, the Environmental Department's prosecutor, has been arranged in the next few days with a view to finding a resolution. In the meantime, the former Ballon d'Or winner's assets will remain in the possession of the local authorities.

Ronaldinho started his career with local side Gremio before moving to Europe to sign for Paris Saint-Germain in 2001.

After helping Brazil win the World Cup, he joined Barcelona in 2003, where he won the Champions League. He also played for AC Milan, Flamengo, Atletico Mineiro, Mexico side Queretaro and Fluminense before retiring in 2015.
