We're all impatiently twiddling our thumbs in anticipation of PlayStation Now, Sony's "Netflix of gaming", but the good news is that the it should be worth the wait, as we're told that the streaming service is getting faster. Nobody likes load times. Nobody. So we're pleased that DualShockers is claiming that the second phase of the Now beta has brought reduced loading times to most of the titles currently on the service. For example, Dead or Alive 5 has been cut from 51.10 seconds to 36.55 seconds, while Shadow of the Colossus is down to 46.72 from 53.98 seconds. Now now A few of the titles haven't seen any major improvements but for the majority all the signs are good. Actual loads times will obviously depend partly on the quality of your internet speed, but these tests were allegedly done using the same connection and at "roughly" the same time of day. In conclusion, it's all good news. PlayStation Now will launch in the US later this year and will hit the UK in 2015.

Sony's Japan studio has announced it will be bringing three of its upcoming Vita titles to the US and Europe. Freedom Wars, which was announced for Japan last year, is the first. It's an action RPG set in a penal colony in the far future, where people are sentenced to prison for one million years for the crime of living. Up to eight players can take part online, with support for four-player ad-hoc play. It'll be coming to Vita in 2014, and a new trailer for the game was also released: Next up is Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, a JRPG revolving around Japanese mythology, where players lead a clan seeking to lift a curse that's given its members a two year lifespan. The game sounds like it will span multiple generations, as you're charged with ensuring the clan's bloodline becomes more powerful with each new birth. There's no word of a release date. Finally, Soul Sacrifice Delta--a spruced up version of last year's monster-hunting title. The Delta version will bring new Archfiends, sorcerers, arenas, spells, and quests. Sony says the graphics have been spruced up, and that save data from the original Soul Sacrifice will carry over. Soul Sacrifice Delta is due for release on May 14.

As part of a new service offered only in Japan for now, Sony has begun selling individual PlayStation 4 parts for local gamers, DualShockers reports. The service won't let you build a PS4 from scratch, of course, but you can pick up spare parts like an HDD bay cover (¥1000/$10), HDD bay bracket (¥500/$5), screw set (¥250/$2.50), or power cord (¥450/$4). Right now, there's no word on if this PS4 service will be extended to gamers in Europe or the United States. The site also points out that Sony already operates a similar program for PlayStation 3. We have reached out to a Sony Computer Entertainment America representative for comment.

Unable to make headway on Steam Greenlight, the developer of UFHO2 has put a torrent of the game on The Pirate Bay. Things were looking pretty good for UFHO2 in 2012. A successful Kickstarter campaign wrapped up in February of that year and in August, it landed on Steam Greenlight. And there it sat. The develeper, Ciro Continisio, announced last month that the game would be launching in full on Desura and the Humble Store on April 1, and so it did, yet the effort to get it on Steam remains stuck and ignored. It didn't take long after its release on other digital storefronts for Steam's dominant position in the industry, coupled with the lack of progress in getting UFHO2 onto it, to convince Continisio that the game is effectively dead in the water. But instead of giving up, he's decided to just give it away. "My game UFHO2 has been on Greenlight for 2+ years now, and with no luck. Is it so shitty?" he wrote in a Reddit post. "I released it days ago on Desura/Humble Store, but the trend is clear: nobody is going to buy it unless it's on Steam. Thus, I've put it on torrent so everyone can enjoy it." It's an unfortunate outcome that speaks rather poorly of Steam Greenlight, although its dysfunction is hardly a secret, and also highlights the overriding importance of Steam to indie studios and the dangers of not making it through the Greenlight process. Fortunately for Continisio, he's having better luck with the iOS version of the game. "On mobile [uFHO2] is doing slightly better, because even if super crowded the App Store has mechanisms to make good game emerge, and a lot of websites publish articles about apps all the time," he wrote. "On Greenlight, nobody is really scouting for good games anymore." Capcom has begun constructing its second new research and development building in Osaka, Japan in preparation for the company’s new emphasis on development and digital distribution. Along with their two new buildings, Capcom announced today that part of the $78 million plan includes a focus on designing more games internally, so it plans to hire 100 developers every year, “mostly new graduates,” and hopes to have a workforces of 2,500 developers by March 2022. 01:53Capcom Pro Tour 2014 Announcement Trailer Capcom said that the two new buildings will have a "variety of the latest facilities" including a motion capture room and a studio for producing sound effects to give its developers a "competitive advantage" in the "rapidly growing mobile content and PC online games markets." MechRunner, a new mech-themed, Hollywood-influenced action game, has been announced for a summer release on PC, PS4, and PlayStation Vita. 02:12MechRunner - Announcement Trailer MechRunner casts gamers as a mech that can switch between robot and tank modes, enabling them to blast their way through urban landscapes while defeating waves of enemies and rescuing civilians. It is being developed by Spark Plug Games, a studio that's previously worked on a number of PC and mobile games, including the iOS port of Puzzle Quest 2. For MechRunner, Spark Plug got film industry concept artist Josh Nizzi on board to help conceptualise and bring the mechs to life. Nizzi has a lot of experience in the area, having worked on hits like The Avengers, Iron Man, and Transformers. “I think we have some of the most detailed, amazing looking mechs to ever appear in a video game," says Ben Lichius, VP and Art Director at Spark Plug. Though MechRunner is reportedly already "feature complete," Spark Plug is running a Kickstarter campaign to help polish things up before its release. Another file-hosting site popular with pirates has bitten the dust. According to the Vietnamese government the operators of Ryushare were arrested for distributing "depraved culture", a reference to adult-related material. Reports from authorities say the site, which at its peak last year got close to breaking into the Alexa 500, generated profits of $6.2m. ryushareThere are many hundreds, probably thousands, of file-hosting sites online, each serving their own area of the market. One only has to watch discussion on so-called warez forums to discover which ones are popular with pirates. Ryushare was one such site. Whether its operators deliberately influenced that is up for debate, but healthy affiliate and rewards programs certainly made it more attractive than similar sites without them. The site grew steeply in the latter half of 2012, peaking near the Alexa 500 at the turn of 2013. But while the mere existence of a reward program doesn’t signal a breach of the law, Ryushare clearly had other legal problems. Earlier this month the site completely disappeared alongside reports that its operators had been arrested. This weekend a more detailed report from the Vietnamese government stated that police had shut down an operation dedicated to the illegal distribution of pornography. According to the report, Nguyen Duc Nhat, the Vietnamese owner of Ryushare, was arrested along with three others. This led to the shutdown of the site which according to police had been operating 500 overseas servers. The alleged operators of RyushareRyushare Authorities say that during its lifetime Ryushare generated profits of 132,000,000,000 Vietnamese dong, or $6.2 million for those who prefer less zeros. During the course of the arrests, police say they seized two cars, three motorcycles, five laptops and five accounts containing around $355,000. The Ryushare site remains offline and rumors of a resurrection have yet to come true. Authorities say the investigation continues.

Cinefy is a brand new service that allows users to stream movie and TV-torrents directly to their browser, with no external torrent clients, plugins or video players needed. The unique "patent pending" technology streams videos on-the-fly, and works on pretty much any device that has a browser. cinefyA few weeks ago a new piece of software called “Popcorn Time” made headlines around the world. The key to this success was the app’s sheer simplicity, something that was missing from most of the earlier torrent streaming services. Today, a new torrent streaming service launched, one that’s just as simple, but doesn’t require any extra software. Using only HTML5 technology, Cinefy can stream video torrents directly to a browser. There is no need to install any software or plugins and it works on every platform. This is not limited to PCs and laptops either, since it also includes mobile devices and game consoles. TorrentFreak caught up with the main developer Rich, who says that the main motivation to develop the service was to see if it was possible to make a torrent streaming tool without any additions. “We started the project for the sheer challenge of seeing if we could stream torrents directly to the browser without any other software,” Rick explains to TF. The result is a web service that looks awfully simple, but works as advertised. Similar to Popcorn Time, it taps into a database of YTS movies, but users can also stream other videos by pasting a magnet link into the search box. “Right now you can search for movies, which come from YTS, but Cinefi will play any torrent or magnet link, except videos encoded in AVI. Just paste and click,” Rich says. As can be seen below, a trailer of the fourth Game of Thrones season plays just fine after a few seconds of loading time. As with any torrent streaming service, the playback is the smoothest for files that have relatively many seeders. We don’t encourage any illegal activity on the site. We do not host or store any torrents,” Rich tells TF. “We merely provide the technology and it is up to the user’s discretion,” he adds.
