  1. Paul Feig is directing the Universal movie, which is a holiday romance set in London. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) are ready for a little holiday romance. The pair are set to star in Universal's Last Christmas. Paul Feig, whose latest film A Simple Favor opened in theaters on Sept. 14, will direct the project, which reunites him with Golding, who stars in A Simple Favor. The plot for the movie, with a screenplay by Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings, has been kept mostly under wraps, other than it being a holiday romance set in London. Feig, who previously helmed Bridesmaids, The Heat and Ghostbusters and created the comedy series Freaks and Geeks, will also produce Last Christmas for his Feigco Entertainment, alongside Jessie Henderson. David Livingstone, producer of the upcoming Judy Garland biopic Judy starring Renee Zellweger, and Thompson will also produce. Universal executive vp production Erik Baiers will oversee the project for the studio. Clarke plays Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, which won the Emmy for best drama on Monday, and will wrap up with its eighth season in 2019. She most recently was seen on the big screen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and has previously shown off her skills in a romance film with 2016's Me Before You. Clarke is repped by CAA, Emptage Hallett in the U.K. and Hansen, Jacobson. Golding's first-ever feature film role was the lead in Crazy Rich Asians, which has skyrocketed him to leading-man status after the Warner Bros.' hit romantic comedy was No. 1 for three weeks in a row to become the top-grossing comedy at the domestic box office in the last two two years. The actor also stars opposite Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in Feig's A Simple Favor (which earned $16 million in its domestic debut), and he also has shot the indie Monsoon. Golding is repped by Paradigm, Megan Silverman Management and Stone Genow.
  2. Higher. Further. Faster. Those words not only form the tagline for the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also the film’s approach to cementing Captain Marvel’s place among an already thriving pantheon of heroes. The film’s trailer, released Tuesday morning, wastes no time in not only establishing Captain Marvel’s tremendous power set, but also distinguishing her from the heroes that have come before. Chief among those defining factors is that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) will be the first woman in the MCU to lead a solo film. The film is also the first entry in the MCU to feature a woman in the director’s chair, with directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, Mississippi Grind) piloting the project and hopefully making a smooth landing when the film enters theaters on March 8, 2019. There is a sense of mystery surrounding Captain Marvel, not only for viewers, but for Carol Danvers herself. Her origins, her powers, and her place in the scheme of Marvel heroes aren’t instantly recognizable to general audiences in the same way that Captain America’s, or the Hulk’s are. Or even in the case of Iron Man, Captain Marvel’s name doesn’t give audiences much to go on. While Marvel has had major successes with comic characters who were far from household names when their films were announced, like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, they’ve done so largely through comedy. When it comes to the unknown, Marvel Studios has provided films that wink and nod at an unassuming audience, letting them know that yes it’s ridiculous but we’re all in on the joke. But the trailer for Captain Marvel, like Black Panther before it, doesn’t use general audience unfamiliarity to present the character as a joke. Rather it makes a statement that Captain Marvel means business, and if you don’t know her, well buckle up because she’s about to change the universe. The second of Marvel Studios’ films to serve as a period piece (after Captain America: The First Avenger) Captain Marvel owns its '90s setting right off the bat with a glimpse of an all-powerful relic of the past: a Blockbuster storefront. But the film’s '90s element isn’t just a front, it seems embedded within the DNA of the film. Although frequent Marvel cinematographer Ben Davis (Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange) returns as DP for Captain Marvel, the film’s look has an identity distinct from those earlier films, one that makes Marvel’s cosmic adventure seem a little more grounded than the candy-colored galaxies and Escher-esque dimensions that defined James Gunn's Guardians or Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange. From car chases, air force bases, sunset shots, and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury rocking two eyes and a get up that looks borrowed from Danny Glover’s Roger Murtaugh, Captain Marvel looks to be directly inspired by the films of Tony Scott, Roland Emmerich, and Richard Donner. The only thing that could make the trailer seem more '90s would be a Goo Goo Dolls or Aerosmith track. It seems as though Boden and Fleck will be making some significant changes to Captain Marvel’s origins. While we learned recently that Captain Marvel will not be an origin film and will start with the hero already a part of the Kree military, her origin story will still have a place in the story. We see glimpses of Carol Danvers' past from her childhood, to her military training, but Carol herself isn’t certain these memories are really hers. In the comics, Carol becomes a Kree-human hybrid after the explosion of a device called the “Psyche-Magnetron” alters her genes and combines them with the former Captain Marvel. While the film likely won’t translate that backstory directly, the film does seem to be taking a surprisingly complex approach to Carol’s origins. We’ve gotten simplified versions of Marvel characters over the years (see Thor), but after ten years in the MCU, the audience is primed for things to get a bit more complicated. From the teaser, it seems Captain Marvel will venture into a more enigmatic origin story than we’ve seen before, if only due to a structure that seems to be predicated on unreliable flashbacks. When we first meet Carol she’s a member of the Starforce, an elite Kree military unit. If the Kree sound familiar it’s because they played a small, though significant role in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and have played prominently into ABC television series Agents of SHIELD. So why do Carol and the Starforce look so serious? The Kree in the MCU are a race known for keeping their emotions in check. Undoubtedly, Carol will struggle with this once she returns to Earth and begins dredging up the memories of her past. Carol won’t be the only Kree warrior struggling with her emotions as Lee Pace’s Guardians’ baddie, Ronan, returns to the fray as well. While not yet the zealot he will become, Ronan will undoubtedly, over the course of the film, slip into the madness that eventually consumes him.Another key member of the Kree’s officers is Jude Law’s Mar-Vell. Marvel Comics’ original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell (aka Walter Lawson) will serve as Carol’s mentor in the film. Carol Danvers, who was originally known as Ms. Marvel in the comics, originally led a spin-off title of Lawson’s Captain Marvel before going on to surpass him in popularity. It’s worth noting that while Mar-Vell is said to be a believer in the Kree doctrine, he also has a human name and appearance like Carol, suggesting a complex origin of his own. Perhaps they share a similar backstory in the film, but while Carol wants to reconnect with her human side, Mar-Vell has cut himself off from it. If we’re going by Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, Mar-Vell, as the wise sage, seems destined for tragedy. It’s worth noting that Marvel’s first graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel (1982) by Jim Starlin, which saw Mar-Vell’s demise, set the stage for Avengers: Infinity War comic book inspiration the Infinity Saga, and the proliferation of cosmic powers in Marvel Comics. The film doesn’t give us too much in the form of the film's adversaries, but we are given a brief look at the Skrulls. The shape-shifting Skrulls, who were first introduced in the pages of Fantastic Four, have been constant threats in the Marvel Universe, though their biggest ploy came when they disguised themselves and replaced a number of Marvel’s heroes, setting the stage for 2008’s Secret Invasion. While fans have already got their bets placed on which Marvel characters will be revealed as Skrulls in May's Avengers 4, it stands to reason that a full-scale adaptation of Secret Invasion won’t come to fruition until later down the line, perhaps in a Captain Marvel-led New Avengers movie. But that doesn’t mean the Skrulls are planning to start small in their efforts to control the galaxy. They’ve already hidden themselves among Earth’s public, as suggested by Captain Marvel punching an old woman on a bus. In terms of characterizations, Captain Marvel will draw largely from Kelly Sue DeConnick’s 2012 run on the character, which saw Ms. Marvel first assume the mantle and name Captain Marvel. But the larger plot Carol finds herself caught up in will borrow from 1971’s Kree-Skrull War storyline by Roy Thomas, which is considered to be a highlight of Marvel Comics’ events. The storyline saw the ramifications of a hundred years old conflict that had roots in the Kree experimenting on humans in order to create mutant weapons to defeat the Skrulls. In the comics, these experiments resulted in the Inhumans, who were botched on television last year. Perhaps the ABC series can be retconned and the Inhumans reintroduced as a concept in Captain Marvel, or perhaps those experiments can serve as a way to introduce the X-Men. Either way, the conflict at the center of Captain Marvel could have huge ramifications for the MCU going forward. Although the Kree-Skrull War was published in the Avengers comic book series and brought together most of Marvel’s Earthbound and cosmic heroes and villains, Captain Marvel positions the war during a time when only Carol can defend the Earth against the alien forces that seek to control it and its genetic wellspring. With Captain America still on ice, and Hank Pym retired as Ant-Man following the loss of his wife, Janet, Carol will take the stage as the Earth’s only superhero. Captain Marvel may offer the biggest threat, in terms of scope, for an MCU character’s solo feature. The film will surely position Captain Marvel as the MCU’s strongest hero, answer the question of where she’s been all of this time, and perhaps make her key to defeating Thanos in Avengers 4. Captain Marvel may have joined the party late, but there’s plenty of reasons to be thrilled she’s finally arrived.
  3. Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger star in this adaptation of Fiona Shaw's novel of the same name, a tale of illicit love that dare not speak its name. A wee bit on the mushy side, which could actually be an asset commercially, Tell It to the Bees casts Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger as secret lovers in a small Scottish town not long after World War II. Adapted from actor-turned-novelist Fiona Shaw's book of the same name by sister screenwriters Henrietta and Jessica Ashworth, this British production comes directed by Annabel Jankel, whose rĂ©sumĂ© includes co-creating TV character Max Headroom as well as directing the Meg Ryan-Dennis Quaid remake of noir classic D.O.A. and computer game-to-film adaptation Super Mario Bros. and lots of music-related filmmaking. Given that eclectic background, Jankel seems a slightly odd fit for this period-set romantic drama, although her visual effects skills must have been helpful for supervising the creation of a swarm of digital bees. The result should appeal to audiences with a soft spot for stories about plucky, convention-defying women falling in love while wearing floaty, vintage tea dresses — and keeping bees. Some might mutter about the industry's preference for lesbian-themed movies in which the leads just so happen to be thin, femme and pretty, but it’s hard to dislike this pleasant, earnest work. In a Scottish town big enough to support a fabric mill but small enough that gossip spreads fast, pretty Englishwoman Lydia Weekes (Grainger) has found a precarious place for herself after marrying into the community and bearing a son, Charlie (Gregor Selkirk), now about 11 or 12. Unfortunately, Lydia’s husband Robert, a war veteran, has gone astray and now has a fancy woman he’s decided to move in with, leaving Lydia to cope largely on her own, albeit with some grudging childcare help from Robert’s widowed sister Pam (the protean Kate Dickie). Pam’s own daughter Annie (Lauren Lyle), nearly out of her teens and with a bit of a wild streak, has been stepping out with George (Leo Hoyte-Egan), a nice but barely developed character who happens to be of color. Oddly and rather ahistorically, George’s ethnicity is never remarked upon by anyone, which inadvertently flatters the townspeople by positing they’re capable of one kind of tolerance but not another, as the plot soon proves. For it transpires that Dr. Jean Markham (Paquin, assaying a Scottish accent near perfectly for the perhaps the first time since she won a best supporting actress Oscar for The Piano as a child), the new general practitioner in town, once caused a bit of a scandal as a teen herself when she was caught kissing another girl. Now back home in the wake of her father’s demise after years away at university and elsewhere, she keeps a low profile, living in her father’s large house and tending to the swarm of bees that comes with the place. An old friend, wealthy toff bachelor Jim (Steven Robertson), offers to marry her but, knowing it would never work, she declines. However, when a minor injury of Charlie’s introduces her to Lydia, the attraction is palpable. Moreover, Charlie is entranced by the bee swarm, and at Jean’s suggestion, in accordance with local folk wisdom, he starts telling his secrets to the bees regularly, hence the title. The time the young screenwriters Henrietta and Jessica Ashworth have spent so far working in television (including the upcoming second season of Killing Eve) is palpable in the tidy storytelling here, which braids all the strands in neatly, leading up to a finale where Jean must help out Annie with her medical skills after a botched forced abortion (a timely subject) while Lydia, now lovers with Jean, is confronted by her unpleasant, homophobic ex-husband. Even the bees get involved in the ensuing ruck, resulting in a lot of cross-cut drama as everything, somewhat improbably, all kicks off at once. Nevertheless, despite such melodramatic touches, the film demonstrates a good ear for period dialogue and, to an extent, period attitudes with a conclusion that suits the challenges of the times. There’s also a sensitivity to the nuances of class difference in the era, expressed subtly through Andy Harris’ production design and Ali Mitchell’s costumes, offering a lovely mood board study in warm ochres, heathery pinks and misty grays. In terms of performance, Grainger’s natural effervescence blends well with Paquin’s nervier persona, and they come across as a plausible, if somewhat idealized couple. The love scenes are genuinely sexy, just explicit enough to be credible without showing too much skin, thus risking a higher rating. This is no Mustard Yellow Is the Warmest Color — which, again, will probably make this more marketable, especially for nostalgic, open-minded older viewers. 4. Netflix has ordered a live-action series based on “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” The new show hails from the original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers. The new series, in partnership with Nickelodeon, will start production in 2019. The show follows the adventures of Aang–the titular Avatar and last Airbender–and his friends, who live in a world divided into four nations, each corresponding with one of the four elements: Water, Fire, Earth, and Air. Special people in each nation, known as benders, have the ability to manipulate one of the elements through martial arts. The Avatar is able to control all four elements and is meant to bring balance to the world. Aang and company must save the world by defeating Fire Lord Ozai and end a destructive war waged by the Fire Nation. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,'” said Konietzko and DiMartino. “We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.” “The Last Airbender” aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008. The series received substantial acclaim during its run, picking up multiple Annie Awards, Genesis Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Peabody Award. News of the series comes after M. Night Shyamalan adapted the show into a film in 2010. The film was panned by critics and fans alike and holds just a 6% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  5. AMC Theatres is launching “A Star Is Born” two days early for 7 p.m. shows on Oct. 2 at 115 of its Dolby Cinemas. AMC announced the promotion on Tuesday. The chain said ticket prices vary by location. AMC value programs, including AMC Stubs A-List and $5 ticket Tuesday, may not be used for the event. Warner Bros. will begin preview showings of the Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper musical drama on Oct. 4, then go wide with the film on the next day. The soundtrack will also be released on Oct. 5. The movie received a warm reception at its Venice Film Festival premiere on Aug. 31 and at the Toronto Film Festival. That’s led to “A Star Is Born” becoming one of the awards season’s frontrunners. “A Star Is Born” is the third remake of the 1937 film about an alcoholic musician who falls in love with an up-and-coming singer. It’s also Cooper’s feature directorial debut. He wrote the script with Will Fetters and Eric Roth and began shooting the movie at the Coachella Music Festival last year. “A Star Is Born” is opening against Tom Hardy’s “Venom,” which is heading for a $60 million to $65 million debut, according to early tracking, while “A Star Is Born” is eyeing $28 million to $30 million.
  6. Chris Pratt's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom co-star Bryce Dallas Howard defends Star-Lord's actions in Avengers: Infinity War. Like most of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill was among the unfortunate half of the universe who was snuffed out of existence following Thanos' snap, which makes it more frustrating considering that he doesn't have to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy, unlike the heroes who survived. He will, however, be brought back to life (alongside most of the vaporized heroes) one way or another in Avengers 4 and from there, he's supposed to go off with the rest of his cosmic gang for another adventure in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sadly, with the firing of director/writer Gunn from the threequel, it's unclear what will happen with Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The whole controversy might even change the character arcs for the team in Avengers 4 as hinted by Pratt's co-star Dave Bautista. While it's impossible to cut off the whole cosmic team from next year's ensemble film, it's possible that it'll take quite a while to see them in their own standalone, especially now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's production is now on indefinite hold. Speaking with ComicBook, Howard was asked to weigh in about the Infinity War debate with regard to whether or not Star-Lord's epic meltdown on Titan caused the Avengers' defeat. The actress, who admits she liked the film's story, defends Quill's actions, citing the fact that it was a totally humane response for him following learning about Gamora's fate: "Well, here's what I thought: I thought that it was a good story, well told. He's the most human character. He's half human and that spoke to his humanity in that moment. I think it is important that everyone realize that it was Thanos who did it. It was Thanos!" Considering that Howard has a close relationship with Pratt having starred in two Jurassic World films, one might think that she's being biased about the issue, but the actress isn't the only one who felt that Star-Lord's actions were justified considering the hero's characterization. Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have previously said that people are wrong to blame Quill for Thanos' success given that there were several other factors that contributed to the Avengers' failure. If fans are going to condemn Quill for letting his emotions get the best of him, then Thor should also be called out since he technically did the same. Rather than finishing things quickly by aiming for his head, he opted to go for his chest which allowed the Mad Titan to snap his fingers. It was equally, if not a worse mistake than what Star-Lord did, especially coming from a "god." Regardless of what one feels about Quill's mistake, it's a shining example of how Marvel Studios' ability to brilliantly make their characters relatable. People have been invested on the Guardians of the Galaxy since their debut and they were counting on them to help the Avengers defeat Thanos - not jeopardize their mission. So when Star-Lord's glaring mistake happened, people are both frustrated and disappointed at him. And if how Marvel Studios plot their characters arcs are an indication, chances are that they're planning something for the character to redeem himself. 7. “Cake,” by first time feature director Asim Abbasi, has been named as Pakistan’s contender for the Oscars foreign-language category. It was released in its home territory to critical acclaim and box office success in March 2018. Set amidst the affluent section of Karachi society, the film follows a family scattered all over the world that comes together when their aged parents fall ill. The film stars Pakistani superstars Aamina Shaikh and Sanam Saeed. The selection was made by the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee, led by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, two-time Oscar winner for “A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness” and “Saving Face,” both in the documentary short subject category. After a hiatus of several decades, Pakistan resumed submitting films to the foreign language category in 2013 with “Zinda Bhaag.” The country is yet to secure a nomination in the category.
  8. Disney is enlisting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the company prepares to launch its upcoming streaming service. The entertainment giant is in early development on an ambitious plan for a number of limited series centered on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These series will likely include shows centered on Loki and the Scarlet Witch, along with other beloved superheroes who have yet to appear in their own standalone movies. Marvel and Disney had no comment. There’s an important distinction from other Marvel small screen efforts, however. The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Avengers films and their spin-offs, such as Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play them in the streaming shows. Moreover, though sources close to the production are staying mum on the cost of the programming, the budgets are expected to be hefty rivaling those of a major studio productions. Each series is expected to include six to eight episodes. Marvel Studios will produce the shows and Kevin Feige, the guru of all things MCU, is expected to take a hands-on role in their development. The pricey gamble with one of the crown jewels of the Disney film empire is a sign of how much the company has riding on its direct-to-consumer platform. As companies such as Netflix and Amazon continue to grow their user base, Disney is trying to find a way to establish a toehold in the streaming revolution upending Hollywood. The company has kept the details of the service close to the vest, beyond saying that it will likely cost less than Netflix and will launch at some point in late 2019. Disney has already started to unwind its licensing deals in order to put as much premium content on the platform as possible. That’s meant that the company is forfeiting billions of dollars in profit, as well as shouldering the cost of developing the technology. The company has announced a number of high-profile projects, including a Star Wars series overseen by “Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau, a show based on “High School Musical,” and a live-action “Lady and the Tramp” film. The company also plans to offer several new releases when it launches, including its live-action “Dumbo” film and “Captain Marvel.” Many of these projects are expensive bets. The Star Wars series will reportedly cost $100 million and the movies are expected to carry budgets north of $25 million. However, Disney has to spend big to make an impression. Netflix, its main rival, has 125 million subscribers globally and has lured top talent like Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”), Kenya Barris (“Black-ish”), and Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”) to its platform with record-setting deals. The Marvel series are in early development and writers have yet to be attached to the projects. Marvel TV Studios and Disney have been active with shows that include ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Netflix’s “Daredevil,” but sources say those shows will stay under Marvel TV banner with these limited series set under Marvel Studios. Storylines for each series are still being teased out, but Disney appears to be holding back some significant fire power for the big screen. Insiders stress the Avengers that have gotten their own movies like Iron Man and Captain America will not be featured in the series with the studios focusing on characters who have served as second tier characters in the MCU. When all is said and done, the Avengers shows could be the streaming service’s most ambitious project both in terms of their scope and budget. Most important, it gives the service something that will attract comic book fans and represents the type of content Netflix would love to get its hands on.
  9. Captain Marvel gets an official poster that shows a new look at Brie Larson in-character. With Marvel Studios' 2018 slate now in the rearview mirror, attention is turning to what's on deck for next year. First out of the gate is Captain Marvel, which is the first MCU installment to be headlined by a solo female superhero. A period piece set in the 1990s, fans are about to explore a largely unknown time in the franchise's history. At the time of Captain Marvel's events, even Nick Fury (he who assembled the Avengers) is unaware there are superheroes out there. Over the summer, Kevin Feige promised marketing would get underway at some point in the fall, but viewers were nevertheless getting impatient for their first look at the film. Shortly after a massive EW spread that included several new photos and details, Marvel finally unveiled the Captain Marvel trailer. That's not all the promotion they've done today, as there's now a new one-sheet available. Marvel released the poster, which is very much of the teaser variety. It shows Carol Danvers suited up as she enters an air hangar, with the tagline "Higher Further Faster" positioned above. Check it out for yourself in the space below: This initial wave of marketing is all about familiarizing audiences with the Captain Marvel character, who has only been hinted at in the MCU prior to this. With that in mind, it isn't surprising to see Carol be front and center (and the only principal character) on the poster. The artwork is quite effective in relaying all of the pertinent information about Captain Marvel, hinting at Danvers' Air Force roots and her abilities (note the glowing fists) that will make her the most powerful figure in the MCU to date. Of course, when the release date gets closer, Marvel will place more of an emphasis on the film's overall story and the supporting cast, but right now, Captain Marvel deserves the spotlight. For many people, the wait to this point has been far too long and it's cause for celebration. While most are expecting Captain Marvel to be another big hit in the MCU, Feige and company still have a lot riding on its success. Carol is set to be a key factor in next year's Avengers 4, as her return to Earth will symbolize a changing of the tide in the fight against Thanos. They need her to strongly resonate with audiences in order for that development to be as impactful as intended. Fortunately, the early response to the marketing is very positive, with audiences expressing excitement at seeing what Marvel has to offer next. By all accounts, the well-oiled machine should keep running smoothly into 2019. Release Dates: Captain Marvel (2019) release date: Mar 08, 2019 The Avengers 4 / Untitled Avengers Movie (2019) release date: May 03, 2019 Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) release date: Jul 05, 2019
  10. Star Wars' Darth Maul actor Ray Park reveals he would be opening to starring in a team-up movie with bounty hunter Boba Fett. Park made his debut in the galaxy far, far away back in The Phantom Menace, where the character seemingly perished at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Maul was eventually brought back to life, where he became an integral part of Lucasfilm's animated shows The Clone Wars and Rebels. And though he definitively died on the small screen during Rebels' third season, the revival meant Lucasfilm could get creative with Maul in the films. One of the biggest shocks of Solo: A Star Wars Story was the third act reveal that Maul was the leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate. Park once again played the character (Sam Witwer supplied the voice), even taking the time to get into shape as he worked through a hip injury. With Maul's scene playing like a tease for future installments, some viewers are wondering if the former Sith Lord will be seen in theaters again at some point, and Park has some cool ideas. In an interview with Nerdist, Park was asked about the possibility of Maul joining forces with Boba Fett in a film. Coincidentally, Park trains with actor Daniel Logan, who played Boba in Attack of the Clones. Park was certainly open to the concept: "I hope so. It would be cool. For many years, when Daniel was coming over before Solo, I said, you never know, one day they may do something. Daniel is one of these guys who's Mr. Natural. He doesn't actually have to work at doing anything, he can just do it. So with some work, he could be unbelievable." Fans would certainly like to see two of the most iconic Star Wars characters crossover, and it's an angle that would make a good deal of sense in-universe. As a mercenary, Boba is open to accepting work for anyone, so he could be hired by Maul to track something down for Crimson Dawn. The likelihood of this ever happening, however, is another matter entirely. In the wake of Solo's underwhelming box office total, Lucasfilm reportedly put future Star Wars spinoff movies on hold (including one set to center on Boba Fett). It's possible Solo home media sales help the movie break even, but that probably won't be enough to warrant the production of a sequel or salvage the Star Wars Story line of films. Lucasfilm also looks to be more interested in new projects like Rian Johnson's trilogy and David Benioff & D.B. Weiss' series, which do not involve familiar characters. Maul and Boba teaming up in a film might be a pipe dream at this point, but luckily for fans, there are plenty of other areas of Star Wars canon where such a meeting can take place. Maul's association with the galactic underworld seems like prime material for a novel or comic series to explore, perhaps providing proper closure to the perceived cliffhanger in Solo. It'll be interesting to see how the Lucasfilm story group handles this moving forward, but they have plenty of options at their disposal. Release Date: Star Wars 9 / Star Wars: Episode IX (2019) release date: Dec 20, 2019
  11. Captain Marvel star Brie Larson reacted to early images of her first official Marvel movie action figure. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's roster of heroes is looking particularly sparse at present after Thanos' infamous finger snap in Avengers: Infinity War, which ruthlessly wiped out half of the universe. In a post-credits scene, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury was also seen succumbing to the power of the Infinity Gauntlet but before he was dusted completely, the former S.H.I.E.L.D. boss left a message with one of his old contacts: Captain Marvel. With Ant-Man and The Wasp now in the rear-view, Marvel Studios are full-steam ahead on their first female-fronted solo movie which will feature the returning Fury as well as Agent Coulson, Ronan the Accuser and debuting iconic comic baddies, the Skrulls. After a series of first-look images landed over the past few weeks, the Captain Marvel movie trailer finally dropped, alongside a new poster. Showcasing Larson in full costume and highlighting the movie's 1990s setting, the Captain Marvel trailer promises action both on Earth and in outer space, with the familiar tones of Jackson on hand to guide fans unfamiliar with this mighty new addition to the franchise. Images of the movie's line of action figures have also begun appearing online, including one of the heroine herself, which reportedly features additional head and hand attachments. Larson herself has now reacted to the image of her action figure via her Twitter, jokingly asking Marvel what the "additional head" could possibly be. In answer to her question, it's highly likely that the extra noggin will be adorned with Captain Marvel's helmet/mohawk combo, as seen in the trailer. It's a look that is inspired heavily by the Marvel comics but while the print iteration of the superhero has been known to rock a mohawk-style hairdo, Larson's live-action version of the character will seemingly only have the look when the helmet covers the rest of her long locks. After Larson was confirmed for the role of Captain Marvel, the actress expressed her delight at not only joining the MCU and starring in the franchise's first female solo venture, but also at getting to see herself in action figure form and indeed many superhero actors have claimed this to be the moment where the significance of their casting "sunk in." With that in mind, Larson's reaction plays things surprisingly cool but there's little doubt that the actress' first reaction to seeing herself in miniature would have been nothing short of total excitement - a feeling fans of the MCU share completely as anticipation for Captain Marvel continues to build. Release Dates: Captain Marvel (2019) release date: Mar 08, 2019 Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) release date: Jul 05, 2019 The Avengers 4 / Untitled Avengers Movie (2019) release date: May 03, 2019
  12. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gets the Honest Trailers treatment. After the record-breaking Jurassic World brought the franchise back in a big way back in 2015, Universal quickly confirmed plans for a full trilogy in the revived series. This past summer, the story continued with Fallen Kingdom, which was decidedly a mixed bag. Though the sequel managed to join the $1 billion club during its theatrical run, reviews were mostly negative, with critics finding very little enjoyment to be had and genuine thrills few and far between. Despite the mixed reception, Universal is still moving forward on Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World 3, which is already scheduled for a 2021 release. It'll be interesting to see how the grand finale performs, especially since some people didn't mince words when it came to criticizing Fallen Kingdom. With the film now available on home media, the folks at Honest Trailers are here to go through some of the major issues viewers had. Today, Screen Junkies released the latest episode of their popular web series, which takes aim at Fallen Kingdom and its various shortcomings. You can watch it for yourself in the space below: After the original Jurassic Park proved that bringing dinosaurs back to life was most definitely a bad idea, the storylines of the sequels have puzzled audiences. Many find the characters' actions to be dumb, which is true in Fallen Kingdom. The parody takes aim at some of the movie's most egregious logical gaps, such as the revelation the theme park was built on an active volcano, the whole concept of the Indoraptor hybrid, and the fact a paleo-veterinarian never thought she'd see a dinosaur in real life. Those aspects were enough to frustrate viewers, but a close examination of the plot illustrates how Fallen Kingdom is basically a retread of The Lost World, just switching out the characters and locations, of course. Overall, the sequel is bad enough in some eyes to spoil the property, as it ruins the awe-inspiring spectacle of the first movie. Hopefully, the third film can find a way to recapture the magic, with Trevorrow promising a return to the brand's science thriller roots. On the other hand, Trevorrow has been the common denominator throughout the Jurassic World series so far, and not many are inspired by what they've seen. There was even a fan petition to have Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona replace Trevorrow at the helm, which doesn't bode well for Jurassic World 3's prospects. However, there's always a chance it could surprise and conclude the trilogy on a high note
  13. Eddie Murphy is set to star in New Line’s Grumpy Old Men remake, to be directed by Ride Along helmer Tim Story. The original Grumpy Old Men starred legendary acting duo Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in a tale of two elderly neighbors locked in an ages-old feud. Their bad blood reaches a boiling point when a new neighbor (Ann-Margret) moves in next door and stokes both men’s romantic fires. Released in 1993, Grumpy Old Men would go on to gross $70 million at the box office ($155 million when adjusted for inflation). A 1995 sequel Grumpier Old Men, which added Sophia Loren to the cast, grossed $71 million ($150 million when adjusted for inflation). The chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau would prove to be the magic ingredient that helped both Grumpy Old Men and its sequel transcend their formulaic material and become enduring comedy hits. Now, New Line will revisit Grumpy Old Men with Eddie Murphy attached in one of the lead roles (via Deadline). Tim Story will handle producing and directing duties on the film, with John Davis also onboard as a producer. The film does not as yet have a title, nor does it have a second actor to work alongside Murphy. Deadline says Samuel L. Jackson has been proposed as Murphy’s co-star, and indeed Jackson recently worked with Tim Story on the latest remake of Shaft. Murphy was of course once considered a comedic movie talent big enough to rival legends the stature of Lemmon or Matthau. After launching a successful stand-up career, Murphy’s star rose on Saturday Night Live, then he became a movie star through a string of hits including 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America. After a run of box office failures, the previously R-rated Murphy settled in to a second career as more of a family-friendly comedian in movies like The Nutty Professor, Doctor Dolittle and Shrek. Murphy can next be seen playing ‘70s cult icon Rudy Ray Moore in the biopic Dolemite is My Name. There are also persistent stories that Beverly Hills Cop 4 could still happen. Murphy has occasionally looked poised to mount a legitimate A-list comeback, but thus far the return of golden era Murphy longed for by many fans has yet to materialize. It remains to be seen if New Line’s new take on Grumpy Old Men will be the vehicle that returns Murphy to his old form. Much will depend on the script of course, and who is chosen to star alongside Murphy. Jackson would no doubt be an intriguing choice, especially if the film aims for more of an edgy, adult tone. The original Grumpy Old Men was farcical and grouchy, but stayed on the PG-13 side of the line.
  14. Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding are teaming up with director Paul Feig for the winter holiday-themed romantic comedy, Last Christmas. Since he broke-out as a filmmaker with the raunchy comedy Bridesmaids in 2011, Feig has become known for making movies both headlined and written by women. He's tried his hand at everything from a buddy cop comedy (The Heat) to a James Bond parody (Spy) and even a Ghostbusters reboot in the years since, culminating with his efforts on last week's dark comedy/mystery-thriller, A Simple Favor. The latter has earned positive reviews and featured Golding in his second big film role, following Crazy Rich Asians back in August. According to THR, Clarke and Golding are now set to share the screen in Feig's next directorial effort, Last Christmas. Plot details for the film are scarce to come by, other than it takes place in London and involves a holiday romance between its lead characters. Oscar-winner Emma Thompson wrote the Last Christmas script with lesser-unknown Bryony Kimmings and will produce the movie alongside Feig. Last Christmas is but the latest addition to the ongoing rom-com genre revival that began earlier this year, with the release of Netflix films like Set It Up. Things got kicked up a notch in August when Crazy Rich Asians opened to great reviews and earned strong returns at the global box office. Then, just two days after that, Netflix unveiled To All the Boys I've Loved Before - a teen rom-com that earned a similarly enthusiastic reception and may be getting a sequel in the foreseeable future (much like Crazy Rich Asians). There have already been a couple rom-com misses this year (namely, Destination Wedding and Sierra Burgess is a Loser), but on the whole the genre has properly roared back to life after years of being underserved by movie studios. Golding has similarly proven himself to be a charismatic romantic lead, so it's good to see him returning to the genre for another installment, in addition to reuniting with Feig so quickly. Clarke, meanwhile, hasn't gotten too many chances to show off her rom-com game thus far, in-between her dramatic roles in franchise genre fare like Terminator Genisys and Solo: A Star Wars Story - and, of course, her role as the Mother of Dragons on Game of Thrones. By the sound of it, Last Christmas will offer Clarke a nice change of pace after Thrones finishes it run next year. Plus, as a bonus, both she and Golding will get to use their natural accents in the England-based film. Last Christmas does not have a release date yet. We will let you know when that changes.
  15. The 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards are an interesting mix of new and familiar faces, with the latter being especially true in the nights biggest award categories. Outstanding drama is filled with series that have been there before, with both Game of Thrones and The Handmaid’s Tale having gone home winners. This year, though, the sentimental favorite might be FX’s The Americans, which was routinely a favorite of critics, but somehow only saw recognition from Emmy voters sporadically over its last few seasons. The same is true in the actor and actress categories, with both Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys landing nominations for their roles as Elizabeth and Philip Jennings. They face stiff competition, however, as past winners Elisabeth Moss and Tatiana Maslaney are both in the running, as well as Sterling K. Brown for his multiple award-winning performance in NBC’s This Is Us. With Netflix and HBO dominating the pack, it will be interesting to see who wins out, the premium cabler and reigning Emmy champ, or the streaming upstart who’s found more and more award-season love over the past few years. Then again, given the Emmys’ track record, Hulu might find itself the winner of the big prize again this year. 16. Mr. Grinch puts his diabolical plot to steal Christmas in motion in the final trailer and poster for Illumination Entertainment's The Grinch. A feature-length animated version of Dr. Seuss' classic book How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, The Grinch is the latest project from the minds behind Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets and Minions. It's also the second Seuss adaptation from Illumination overall, after the release of The Lorax in 2012. The studio once intended to adapt the author's The Cat in the Hat too, but has since abandoned those plans and is now focusing on developing more sequels to its original hits... among other things. Illumination has been steadily promoting their new Seuss adaptation for much of this year, starting with The Grinch Winter Olympics promo back in February. It has since released a teaser trailer, a pair of U.S. trailers and even more international previews to boot. The (probably) final trailer and poster for The Grinch have now been unveiled, as you can see in the space below. Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to The Grinch for Illumination's adaptation, after Boris Karloff voiced him during the famous 1966 TV special and Jim Carrey brought him to life in Ron Howard's live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000. By and large, however, the curmudgeonly character and his plan to steal Christmas from his extra-festive neighbors in Who-ville has remained unchanged, throughout these different retellings. What has varied from version to version is the tone, humor and how young Cindy-Lou Who fits into the story. The Grinch trailers have been filled with Illumination's now-familiar brand of slapstick comedy and sight gags - suggesting the actual film will feel very much like a chip off the same block as Despicable Me and Minions. However, the movie also includes a subplot where Cindy-Lou plots to meet Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and thank him for helping her overworked single mom... unaware of what The Grinch is planning to do. The final trailer and poster, like their predecessors, leaves out Cindy-Lou and her storyline in order to keep the marketing focused on the Grinch's Christmas-stealing hijinks. Still, Illumination's best films have always managed to combine tender moments with zany shenanigans and characters, so the hope is that Cindy-Lou will ultimately provide the former here. If not, well, then audiences better get ready for even more Grinch-related jokes than they've gotten already. The Grinch/How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2018) release date: Nov 09, 2018
  17. Amazon’s new series The Romanoffs is less than a month away, but the marketing campaign is just getting started with a new promo that promises the series will feature eight original stories full of emotional baggage. The series isn’t just a star-studded affair, with a cast that includes the likes of Isabelle Huppert, Corey Stoll, Aaron Eckhart, Amanda Peet and more, it also marks Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s return to television since since his acclaimed ‘60s-set series ended its run in 2015. Since Weiner is behind the new series, it’s no surprise to see familiar faces like Christina Hendricks and John Slattery in the new promo. They appear briefly along with a few quick glimpses at some others in the huge cast, such as Andrew Rannells, Diane Lane, and, as seen in a funny out-of-context scene, Kerry BishĂ© and Noah Wyle, who are taking shots with a very formally dressed gentleman being asked not to toss his shot glass over his shoulder after taking a drink. In all, the new promo seems to be selling the new series more on its tone than on the enormous cast. Previous trailers have focused on the sheer amount of star power Weiner has at his disposal, and while that’s certainly going to garner plenty of attention, it’s also a positive sign that The Romanoffs has more up its sleeve than a laundry list of familiar faces. Take a look at the promo below: So far, Amazon’s marketing for the series has been an interesting thing to watch. The Romanoffs isn’t exactly an easy sell, since its an anthology whose first season consists of eight original stories following around different groups of characters. The only thing connecting these otherwise disparate stories is that they each have a character (or characters) convinced they are descended from the Romanov royal family. Again, not exactly an easy concept to sell, but given the talent behind it, The Romanoffs is nevertheless one of Amazon’s most anticipated new series this fall Perhaps because it’s a shorter season than the usual 10- or 12-episode series, The Romanoffs won’t be a binge-watch, but rather, after a two-episode premiere, the series will be delivered in weekly installments. That could be an attempt by Amazon to encourage a lengthier conversation around the series, but it could also be because that’s the way Weiner wanted it done. The Emmy-winner was notoriously secretive and weary of spoilers with regard to the storylines in Mad Men, so it comes as no surprise that his new series will likely be just as ambiguous about what’s around the corner with each new episode. The Romanoffs premieres Friday, October 12 on Amazon Prime Video.
  18. Slapstick comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy get their own big screen memoir in the trailer for Filth director Jon S. Baird's Stan & Ollie. The movie stars Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly and is scheduled to make its world premiere as the closing title at the 2018 BFI London Film Festival next month. Scripted by Jeff Pope (who also cowrote the Oscar-nominated Philomena with Coogan), Stan & Ollie follows Laurel (Coogan) and Hardy (Reilly) as they embark upon a music hall tour across Britain and Ireland in the early 1950s. Nina Arianda (Goliath) and Shirley Henderson (the Bridget Jones movies) costar in the film as Laurel and Hardy's wives Ida Kitaeva and Lucille - a "formidable double act in their own right", as the movie's synopsis puts it. They are joined in the supporting cast here by names like Danny Huston (Wonder Woman), Rufus Jones (Camping) and Susy Kane (House of Anubis). Laurel and Hardy's European tour ultimately served as the swan-song to their prolific career, due to the general public's declining interest in their comedy act and issues like Hardy's failing health. Nevertheless, the duo had already secured their place in film history by that point and collaborated on well over one hundred shorts and feature-length movies (of both the silent and sound variety), over the course of some three decades. You can watch the trailer for Stan & Ollie in the space below. Stan & Ollie, as it were, is one of two Reilly vehicles that will screen at the BFI London Film Festival in a few weeks. The other movie in question is The Sisters Brothers, a quirky western that doubles as A Prophet director Jacques Audiard's english-language feature debut. Sisters Brothers was only just added to the event today and will be joined by such fall 2018 releases (and fellow awards contenders) as British filmmaker Steve McQueen's crime-thriller Widows at the festival. While Sony Pictures Classics (which is distributing the eOne title in the U.S.) has yet to set a domestic launch day for Stan & Ollie, there's a reasonable chance the film will arrive in time to qualify for next year's Oscars. The movie certainly seems like a potential awards season contender, with Coogan and Reilly delivering solid performances that come off as poignant, touching and funny in the trailer alone (to mention nothing of the impressive makeup and prosthetics on Reilly). However, the film's reception at the London Film Festival may have the final say on that matter. Stan & Oliver opens in UK theaters on January 11, 2019. A U.S. release date has yet to be announced.
  19. Netflix’s Maniac will be available to stream at the end of the week, but the service is still busy promoting the star-studded series with a bizarre commercial starring Justin Theroux as James Mantleray. Though the series has already garnered a great deal of attention for casting Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in the lead roles, this new spot is entirely focused on Theroux and supporting actors Sonoya Mizuno as Dr. Fujita and Rome Kanda as Dr. Muramoto, both of whom are as painfully awkward in front of the camera as the good Dr. Mantleray. The video works as ad for Neberdine Pharmaceutical Biotech, the company offering a mysterious procedure known as U.L.P., a therapeutic process touted by Mantleray as a much faster route to a better, happier you. The Neberdine team doesn’t go into specifics as to what U.L.P. entails, but they do say it can eliminate a number of psychological issues like anxiety, teeth-grinding, PTSD, body dysmorphia, and hypo-active sexual desire. The list goes on and on, apparently, as the ad intimates U.L.P. can take care of a laundry list of problems. So far, trailers for Maniac have played up its strange, darkly comic tone, suggesting the series more than earns its title. They have also leaned heavily on the stylistic nature of director Cary Fukunaga, who has teamed with writer and creator Patrick Somerville, in adapting the Norwegian series of the same name and translating it for U.S. audiences. This trailer, however, feels like Netflix is just skipping the middleman and delivering the show’s eccentric sensibilities directly into the viewers’ brain. Take a look at the video below: As far as low-budget advertisements go, this one for Neberdine Pharmaceutical Biotech looks and feels like it was discovered on a VHS tape stuck in a VCR for the past three decades. The spot itself is also reminiscent of both the ad in the original Ghostbusters movie and the recent commercial for the Starcourt Mall, soon to be seen in season 3 of Netflix’s very own Stranger Things. This suggests either Fukunaga and Somerville were partially influenced by an ‘80s comedy classic or Netflix’s marketing department is just really into the way commercials looked thirty years ago. Either way, with the first season dropping at the end of the week, viewers won’t have too long to wait to find out what U.L.P. is and all the ways it can potentially go wrong. Maniac season 1 will stream starting Friday, September 21 on Netflix.
  20. Marvel Studios has unveiled the first full trailer for the MCU’s upcoming and highly anticipated installment, Captain Marvel. The 1990s-set film serves as Marvel Studios’ first prequel, as well as its first superhero movie with a female lead as Oscar-winner Brie Larson plays Carol Danvers, a pilot with superhuman powers who gets caught up in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races Larson is joined by Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. members Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, both of whom will be getting the digital de-aging treatment in the 90s-set storyline. Other familiar faces returning here are Lee Pace as Ronan and Djimon Hounsou as Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy. The cast also includes Lashana Lynch and Gemma Chan, along with Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace. This trailer is really great. The opening shot with Blockbuster telegraphs the time period to the audience in a smart and funny way, and the overall tone of this thing looks to be very influenced by Steven Spielberg-ian First Contact stories—except in Captain Marvel, the alien is also human. Indeed, while we already know that the film begins with the titular character working as part of an intergalactic band of soldiers (described as a Seal Team Six-like group), this trailer reveals that Carol Danvers is lacking most of her human memories. Thus, we can surmise that while Captain Marvel isn’t an origin story per se, we’ll learn the character’s origins in flashback form as Carol’s memories come flooding back to her once she crashes back on Earth. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississipi Grind) direct from a script by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider), Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch (GLOW), as well as Boden and Fleck. Captain Marvel is set for a March 8, 2019 release.
  21. 'Star Wars' actor Adam Driver will host the first episode Kanye West will be the first musical guest on the new season of Saturday Night Live, it has been confirmed. The long-running US comedy show will return after its annual summer break on September 29. West will appear on the first episode of the new series alongside guest host and Star Wars actor Adam Driver. The tracks the rapper will perform have not yet been confirmed. He has previously appeared on SNL six times over the years. Earlier this year, he became the subject of one of the sketches on the Donald Glover-hosted episode. During a spoof version of horror film A Quiet Place, Glover and friends couldn’t keep silent after the actor and rapper shared news of West’s divisive tweets and then-new track ‘Lift Yourself’ with them. West shared a clip of the sketch on his Twitter page, signifying his approval through a series of emoji. Meanwhile, the star recently previewed a new clip of music on his Instagram story. The short snippet soundtracked videos of him getting in a white car and then leaving the same vehicle and entering a studio space. It featured West singing in falsetto and using lots of vocal effects. He has also teased that a sequel to his ‘Watch The Throne’ collaboration with Jay-Z could be on the way. “throne2 coming soon,” he tweeted. Previously, West had said there would “never be a ‘Watch The Throne 2’.”
  22. This will be his sixth album this year... Kanye West has announced the release of yet another new album, which is widely believed to be a follow-up to 2013’s seminal ‘Yeezus‘. West has released five records in 2018 so far, known as the ‘Wyoming’ albums, including the divisive solo record ‘ye‘ and acclaimed Kid Cudi collaboration ‘Kids See Ghosts‘. While he’s also claimed that a sequel to ‘Watch The Throne’ is coming “soon” while he also seems to be working on his long-awaited collaboration with Chance The Rapper, Kanye has now announced that another new record ‘Yandhi’ is coming on September 29. The rapper announced the record featuring artwork of a jewel case, baring a striking resemblance to that of ‘Yeezus’. When Kanye was announced as the first musical guest on the new season of SNL last night, he first teased the record by sharing the show’s running order with ‘Yandhi’ in place of his own name – as well as tweeting out the jewel case image. As Consequence Of Sound reports, Def Jam Records (the parent company of Kanye’s GOOD Music) then delivered a coy response to speculation that the album will indeed be ‘Yeezus’ follow-up. Meanwhile, the star recently previewed a new clip of music on his Instagram story. The short snippet soundtracked videos of him getting in a white car and then leaving the same vehicle and entering a studio space. It featured West singing in falsetto and using lots of vocal effects.
  23. 'Almost done!' Rammstein have confirmed that work on their long-awaited seventh studio album is ‘almost done’. The German industrial metal icons have not released an album since 2009’s ‘Liebe ist fĂŒr alle da’, but now it looks like the wait may at long last be over. While writing sessions for the record began back in 2015, fans grew hopeful when the band shared images of their return to the studio earlier this year. Now, they’ve taken to Twitter to confirm that the album is almost complete, as they record orchestra and choir parts for the LP in Minsk. This comes after guitarist Richard Kruspe told Resurrection Fest last year that he had been “skeptical” to go back into the studio because the band “almost broke up” the last time they made an album. He also said that this next record could be the last the band make. “That’s a feeling — I can be wrong, but just at the moment, I feel like this is maybe the last [shot at making an album] we have, and I wanna give two hundred percent in that and make it as good as it can be,” he said. “When I listen to the stuff, there’s so much potential, and I’m very pleased about what we do at the moment.” The album is rumoured for released in 2019, while the band currently have two live shows on the horizon at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 31 and January 2 – where it is hoped that they will debut new material.
  24. "Why would you want to alter anyone’s perception of their hero?” Rami Malek has revealed the pressure that he felt playing Freddie Mercury, as he prepares for the release of Bohemian Rhapsody. The Mr Robot star will portray the iconic Queen frontman in the rock biopic, which is set for release next month. But while early footage has suggested that he’ll be a perfect fit as the legendary singer, he’s under no illusions about the expectations held by Queen’s global legions of fans. Speaking to the New York Times, he admitted: “It’s not lost on me that this could go terribly wrong, that it could be detrimental to one’s career should this not go the right way”. He added: “Why would you want to alter anyone’s perception of their hero?” He also discussed how he’d channelled Mercury’s legendary on-stage strut by analysing the Queen frontman’s own inspirations – namely Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie and Liza Minnelli in Cabaret. “It was almost more useful at times to watch Liza than it was to watch Freddie himself,” he said. “You found the inspiration and birth of those movements.” Last week, Malek confirmed that the film will paint a full portrait of the rock icon, amid fears that it will ignore his sexuality and eventual battle with AIDS. “It’s a shame that people are making remarks after a minute teaser where you just wanna see the music. It’s difficult,” said Malek. “First, let me say that I don’t think the film shies away from his sexuality or his all-consuming disease, which is obviously AIDS. I don’t know how you could avoid any of that, or if anyone would ever want to. It’s a bit absurd that anyone’s judging this from a minute trailer.” Bohemian Rhapsody hits cinemas on October 24 in the UK and November 2 in the US. It was also announced this week that the film will receive a premiere at Wembley Arena – next door to where the band played one of their most legendary gigs at Wembley Stadium.
  25. The plot thickens... Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly‘s back-and-forth diss tracks were produced by the same person, it’s been revealed. The feud between the pair first emerged at the end of last month, after Eminem took aim at Kelly on surprise album ‘Kamikaze‘. In response, Kelly then shot back with Rap Devil – which offered a savage take down of the rap icon. Seemingly not one to let things lie, Eminem then shot back again with ‘Killshot’, the latest track to emerge in the feud. Discussing his reasons, Eminem also confirmed that his beef with Kelly has nothing to do with the fact that he once referred to his daughter as “hot”. But amid the bitter rivalry, it’s now been revealed that the pair actually shared the same producer. Ronald Spence Jr, also known as Ronny J, is listed as a writer and producer on both ‘The Ringer’ and ‘Not Alike’ on Kamikaze. Days later, it emerged that it had also lent his talents to Kelly’s ‘Rap Devil’, too Now, it’s led to fans thinking that the feud might not be as genuine as first thought. “Why did Ronny J flip on Em and help produce Rap Devil?”, one asked. Amid the feud, Eminem also recently confirmed that he wasn’t dissing Drake. “Drake is going to always be in my good graces, because he did something for one of my daughters that I will never forget and he will always be in my graces for that,” he admitted.
