Medical professional here. A more direct comparison would be Covid vs HIV. HIV is the virus that "CAN" cause AIDS. Covid vs AIDS, no doubt, AIDS is clearly, undoubtedly more dangerous. But when it comes to HIV, well, nowadays therapeutic methods are pretty good and even if you are infected with HIV, your lifespan isn't that bad compared to what it used to be. So you can live a pretty normal life if you are infected with HIV, only if left untreated you can actually reach the AIDS stage.
However mortality for HIV continues to fall. Anyway if I had to pick one I'd say HIV due to potential complications, but COVID is not a joke either in some severe cases. I know that you might've posted this jokingly, but it's actually a pretty nice debate here to be had, haha.
