Trainer John Thompson’s first thoughts were for injured jockey Tye Angland after Sweet Deal won again at Rosehill Gardens.

Angland’s last Sydney winner was on Sweet Deal three weeks ago before the jockey was involved in a sickening fall at Sha Tin.

He remains in a Hong Kong hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“There’s a bit of sadness about this win as Sweet Deal was Tye’s last city winner on her,’’ Thompson said.

“I’ve sent Tye a message, my thoughts and prayers go out to him. He’s a good mate.’’

Josh Parr was Saturday’s replacement jockey and guided Sweet Deal to an impressive win in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1400m).

Sweet Deal ($7) settled midfield then gained a split between runners at the top of the straight before finishing hard to scoreby nearly a length from So Magic ($13) with Hussterical ($6) a length away third.

With Purpose was backed into $5 favouritism but was never a winning chance, beating only Sweet Victory home.

Parr was impressed by Sweet Deal’s burst of acceleration when she found clear room in the straight.

“Bella Success improved around us on the turn and had me scrambling for a few strides,’’ he said. “But she did really well to get herself out of that predicament and was strong late.’’

Thompson said he will keep taking Sweet Deal through her grades but hasn’t ruled out a possible start in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford next month.

Sweet Deal was shouldered with 60kg on Saturday but Thompson’s decision not to engage a claiming apprentice was vindicated.

“She has done a few things wrong in the past so I elected to go with Josh,’’ he said.

“He’s a heavyweight jockey so the mare didn’t have to carry any ‘dead’ weight.

“At home, she has been going super. I got Josh to ride her trackwork on Tuesday. After that gallop, he said he had a lot of confidence in the mare.’’

NO PAIN IN DEAMER’S STEWARDS’ FINE
Jason Deamer wasn’t feeling the pain of a broken foot or concerned about a stewards’ fine after the trainer’s stable star Bon Amis sprinted away with the 1100m scamper at Rosehill Gardens.

Deamer usually rides his horses in most of their work but has been unable to do so over the past month as he recovers from the foot injury. “One of my horses jumped on me,’’ Deamer said when asked how he suffered the injury.

“It’s getting better and hopefully I will be able to start riding trackwork again soon.’’

Deamer also incurred a $200 fine — the trainer described it as a “donation” — for not declaring a jockey for Bon Amis until Saturday morning.

“I can afford it (fine) now,’’ he said after the race.

Glyn Schofield got the late call-up and guided Bon Amis ($4.40 favourite) to a dominant 1¼-length win over Jorda ($14) with Coruscate ($6.50) a half-length away third.

Deamer has trained Bon Amis purely as a sprinter this campaign. “This was the toughest race he has contested and, I know they ran along which helped him, but he still had to do it,’’ he said. “It was a good, strong win.’’
