Shaun Marsh and D’Arcy Short among Aussie rejections

Australians missed out on more than $3 million as a group of the nation’s best Twenty20 talent went untouched during the Indian Premier League auction on Tuesday night.

Shaun Marsh and D’Arcy Short were the biggest names snubbed, with no team willing to pay them their price tags of $387,600 (AUD).

A total of 60 players were sold for $21,076,446 - a lucrative pie which only two Australians shared a slice from.

New South Wales batsman Moises Henriques was one of them, taken by Kings XI Punjab for $193,800.

Western Australia all-rounder Ashton Turner was the other after he was sold to Rajasthan Royals for $96,900.

But there was no room for international stars Usman Khawaja, Adam Zampa and Alex Carey who were priced between $190,000-$291,000 each.

As were James Faulkner, Kane Richardson, Dan Christian, James Pattinson and Ben Laughlin, but all five also went unsold.

Teenager Aaron Hardie had been billed as a potential bolter after he removed Virat Kohli this summer and Joe Root the summer before for the Cricket Australia XI. He was on sale for just $38,760 but was also overlooked.

Meanwhile, three players from India’s touring Test squad will have thousands of reasons to cheer up on Wednesday morning after losing the second Test to Australia the day before.

Hanuma Vihari, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma all found new teams during the auction.

Shami landed the biggest deal and will be $951,819 richer next year after he was sold to Kings XI Punjab.

Vihari was sold to Delhi Capitals for half that amount and Sharma to the same team for $213,180.

India’s Test No.3, Cheteshwar Pujara, was unsold.
