We all know aXXo as the most consistent video ripper in the DVD era, sharing a perfect size avi to fit on a cdr. At times I was a little disappointed, the clarity was good but the cropping was a bit excessive.

Times have changed, HD-DVD and now the Blu-ray era. Higher bit-rates, larger aspect ratios and larger file sizes, all contributing to a clearer and much more enjoyable viewing experience.

Whats best? The choice of video file the end user makes will be made by summing up a couple of things, coming to a conclusion of what is best for them. I think the first 2 considerations a user makes will be, How much storage space they have and What size screen they will be viewing the video.

I was really enjoying the x264 1080p movies, but being the eHoarder that I am, when running out of space I found it very difficult to delete a file, off to the store I would go. I now have over 9.2TB of storage and feel that it is about time to stop or atleast slow down.

I rolled back to x264 720p with the main size now around a DVD5 or 4.37GB. Before I have to fork out for another disk, I decided to search for movies in a smaller size.

So my question is what do you think is a good size for a movie file that will be viewed on a full HD 32" LCD from my Notebook via HDMI?

Who do you think is the next aXXo, best 'Encoder'? (consistent in quality and release frequency)

I assume that everyone will recommend MKV as the container, definately more superior than the AVI container.

If you don't really have answer, please leave a comment on what type of movie file you prefer.(Container, Aspect Ratio AR & Size)
