New Frictional Games Title Teased By Studio With Ominous Blinking Light

A new Frictional Games title is starting to be teased by the studio, as in the past few days a website went up that contained nothing but an unclickable and ominously blinking light. Exactly what this means remains to be seen, but Frictional will likely still make a great game.

You might know Frictional from some of their other games. Whether it’s the Penumbra series, the Amnesia games The Dark Descent and A Machine For Pigs, or their most recent offering, 2015’s SOMA, Frictional has become a hallmark for various horror games where you are entirely helpless against enemies that you come across.

Going by their previous work, it’s likely that the new Frictional Games title will be of a similar vein, and will possibly be another science fiction title if the teaser image of the ever-blinking light is anything to go on. Of course, there could also be some changes to the formula.

While the previous games from Frictional were puzzle games that were just as much about inventory management as they were horror, SOMA took things in a different direction, placing less emphasis on inventory and more on the story, along with using less normal scares and more psychological horror. This all resulted in one of the best (and most heartwrenching) games of that year.

It’s been four, nearly five now, years since Frictional released SOMA (which was first announced in 2013), so whatever they’ve been working on since that time, hopefully it will turn out to be a great game that’s better than anything that Frictional has put out before.

While there’s no indication of when this new Frictional Games title will actually be releasing, or when it will even be officially announced, all we can do is just wait and see what the teaser website will give us in the meantime. You can follow this link to look at the teaser site yourself.
