Fans are going to get another look at the gameplay for Star Wars: Squadrons at this week’s Gamescom event, courtesy of Summer Games Fest mastermind and gaming news figure Geoff Keighley. EA’s newest Star Wars title was unveiled back in June, much to the delight of players who have missed the starfighter sims of old like X-Wing and the Rogue Squadron series.

Sure enough, Star Wars: Squadrons looks to be an updated take on those classic games, featuring iconic spaceships from across the Galaxy Far, Far Away - even some that haven’t been featured in the Star Wars films yet. Excited fans got an early look at Squadrons’ first-person, squad-based dogfight gameplay at June’s EA Play event shortly after the game was announced, along with intriguing details about its plot and cast spanning both sides of the classic Rebel Alliance/Galactic Empire conflict that defined much of the nine-movie Skywalker Saga.

According to a Twitter post made by Geoff Keighley yesterday, these fans will get to see more of Star Wars: Squadron Thursday’s Gamescom Opening Night 2020. According to him, EA will present “a world premiere new look” at the game during this week’s event, as shown in a video advertisement depicting Squadrons’ poster art. Check it out below:

In addition to Star Wars Squadrons, this year’s Gamescom will feature over 20 upcoming titles during its planned two-hour runtime. The annual German gaming extravaganza hit a brief speed bump back in March when the country banned all non-essential public gatherings in the wake of the continuing coronavirus pandemic, but thankfully the show will go on as an all-digital event. Among the confirmed titles to make an appearance will be the recent multiplayer smash hit Fall Guys, which is set to reveal its Season 2 content during the festivities.

Despite its rocky start with the Star Wars gaming license, EA has been making considerable strides toward winning back the approval of the infamously difficult to please Star Wars fandom over the past two years. Last fall’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was successful enough to spawn a whole new game franchise, and Star Wars: Squadrons looks like it could continue that upward trend with its exciting starfighter gameplay and interesting look at the heroes on the front lines of one of the Star Wars saga’s greatest conflicts. Players looking forward to seeing more of Star Wars: Squadrons will get another look during Gamescom Opening Night 2020 this Thursday.
