Quicksilver's Return In WandaVision Can Introduce The MCU's New Inhumans

If Marvel brings back Quicksilver in WandaVision, his resurrection could lead to the reintroduction of the Inhumans into the MCU. The Inhuman Royal Family has of course already been adapted, but they could be rebooted. After their race was established in Agents of SHIELD, they starred as the title characters in an ABC series that lasted for only one season. Upon its release, it was widely regarded as the worst installment in the MCU.

The failure of Inhumans has led to fans believing that Marvel is done with Black Bolt and the others, but they could still be utilized again, especially since Ms. Marvel – a show about an Inhuman – is on the horizon. It could be that a chance to bring them into the MCU proper will come in WandaVision, which is serving as the first MCU project in Marvel’s Phase 4 slate.

Marvel setting up or reintroducing the Inhumans in WandaVision could happen if the show finds a way to resurrect Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who died in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Given Scarlet Witch’s reality-warping powers, it wouldn’t be impossible for her to restore him to life, just as she may have done with Vision (Paul Bettany), who died prior to the series’ first episode. The conversation that Wanda had with Geraldine (Teyonah Parris) about Quicksilver’s death in episode 3 has led to an increasing amount speculation that Marvel may be slowly building toward bringing him back. If that is the plan, it could be that Quicksilver’s return will have unexpected repercussions. Here’s how Pietro Maximoff being added to Phase 4 could help usher in a new version of the Inhumans into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Quicksilver’s Connection To The Inhumans Explained

Quicksilver is not an Inhuman in Marvel Comics, but he does share an important connection to them that dates back to 1972. While on an adventure with the Avengers in their comic, Pietro became separated from the group. What happened to him next was explained in the pages of Fantastic Four, where he was found in bad shape and saved by Crystal, the young sister-in-law of the Inhuman king, Black Bolt. During the time in which she nursed him back to health, the two grew close and fell in love. Months later, a wedding was arranged. Having married into the Inhuman Royal Family, Quicksilver became a long-term resident of the Inhumans’ home and played a key role in many of their stories. As a result, his presence in Avengers comics lessened to a great degree.

As time passed, Crystal gave birth to their daughter, Luna. In the early 1990s, their marriage became strained, with Crystal taking a break from their marriage to join Pietro’s old team. For a time, they tried to get past their differences and even served together on the main Avengers roster. Unfortunately, their reconciliation wasn’t able to last. Quicksilver stealing Terrigen crystals to restore his lost powers, coupled with over events, caused their marriage to fall apart. Eventually, the Inhumans decided to cut Quicksilver’s ties with the family and exile him from their home forever.

How Quicksilver Can Lead To The Inhumans In WandaVision

The MCU’s Quicksilver never met Crystal in the MCU, but their relationship could be brought to the small screen if the speedster were to make an appearance in WandaVision. It could be that because of the unpleasant reminders Wanda has had of Pietro’s death, she’ll be motivated to bring him back from the dead. Quicksilver’s place in Westview may be as a new resident who just moved in to the neighborhood. Or, he could visit Wanda and stay at her house as a guest. To make him fit in with the other characters and Westview’s suburban setting, he could join the show as a married man. If so, his wife could be Crystal. The character could be played by a new actress, as opposed to Inhumans’ Isabelle Cornish.

She could be recognized as the Inhuman princess if she bears the trademark black stripes in her hair, or if she has a dog named Lockjaw. In Wanda’s world, Lockjaw could just be a normal bulldog, rather than a teleporting canine. Marvel could tease Crystal’s relationship with the Inhumans by dropping a reference to her sister Medusa, her status as a person of royalty, or her brother-in-law. Her elemental powers could also be acknowledged in some way. After Scarlet Witch’s fake world is dismantled, Marvel could go further in its plans to introduce the Inhumans. It could then explore her romance with Quicksilver naturally, and bring in the rest of the Inhuman Royal Family in a future Phase 4 installment. If and when Ms. Marvel – or perhaps a different MCU character – meets the Inhumans, Crystal could be among then. Depending on what happens with Quicksilver, he could be around too. That would give the MCU something meaningful to do with him in the future.

How Marvel Could Reinvent The Inhumans In The MCU

What could Marvel’s plans for the Inhumans be in the MCU? Given how badly the show was received, it’s hard to imagine them ever revisiting that story. A better option would be to just reboot them. For multiple reasons, Marvel could be inclined to do just that. First of all, the Inhumans are important. Their race, if not the characters themselves, is sure to be present in Ms. Marvel. The show could end up exploring other Inhumans in the MCU, and may even see Kamala Khan seeking out other people like her. This could allow Marvel to introduce a new take on Black Bolt’s family, and reuse them in other Disney+ shows and movies, such as Secret Invasion or Captain Marvel 2.

The Inhumans that Phase 4 could use being new versions of Black Bolt, Medusa, and all the others would make sense because of the multiverse. It could be that Marvel shows outside of its Disney+ lineup exist in their own timelines. Charlie Cox reportedly reprising his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man 3 (a movie that centers on the multiverse) reinforces this idea. So because of the multiverse, Marvel can ignore Inhumans from now on and focus on new iterations of the main characters. Not only does this approach feel plausible, it also feels probable. Since the Inhumans represent a small but significant corner of the Marvel Universe, it’s unlikely that Marvel would allow them to be wasted. And as previously noted, they are indeed relevant to Marvel’s Phase 4 plans beyond WandaVision. It would be a huge, missed opportunity for Marvel Studios to let one failed show stop them from using the Inhumans properly.
