Halo Infinite will be optimized to run on all platforms, including PC, Xbox Series X & S, and the Xbox One. It has been well documented that Halo Infinite was originally scheduled to launch alongside the Xbox Series X/S in November of last year until Microsoft decided to delay the release until Fall 2021. That was likely the correct decision as multiple problems emerged during the game's development. Criticism was also aimed at the game's visuals, with the gameplay making a disappointing impression during an 8-minute preview at the Xbox Games Showcase. Fans have also been left irate by the apparent reliance on microtransactions in the form of overpriced armor coatings. The decision of 343 Industries to completely remove classic color options in favor of new armor coatings is a significant change that has led many fans to question whether the decision was motivated by microtransactions.

In an effort to keep enthusiastic fans informed and happy until release, 343 Industries has announced plans to publish monthly updates concerning the highly anticipated game's development. While it has been confirmed that Infinite will offer free-to-play multiplayer, other gameplay details have not yet been revealed. Considering that previous Halo games have adopted a variety of different combat approaches, this is undoubtedly one of the burning questions many Halo fans have about the upcoming game. The hope is that these updates will mirror the past actions of Bungie and reveal additional information as the clock slowly ticks.

According to IGN, Halo Infinite devs have repurposed the in-game engine so it is prepared to run on all devices as smoothly as possible. Although the game is slated to launch on last-gen consoles, players should not run into any problems if they are using more powerful consoles or devices. Game Foundation Architect Danielle Giannetti, an engineer involved in the game's development, explains what players can expect: "We used this new system to transition the renderer to a massively parallel multi-threaded framework to support the increased cost of all our new rendering features and achieve high graphics efficiency on PC CPUs of various size as well as Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One X/S hardware."

Halo Infinite is the sixth installment in the Halo series. Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved first released back in 20o1, the franchise has become an Xbox icon. Halo's multiplayer has changed dramatically through each title, so fans are definitely eager to discover what multiplayer features will be included in Infinite.

It is reassuring to see that 343 Industries is following through on its promise to make Halo Infinite as enjoyable as possible for fans who do not own a next-gen console. Considering how difficult of a time 343 Industries has had with Infinite, these updates should hopefully provide more clarity into the progression of the game. Now that it has been confirmed Infinite will be optimized to run well on multiple platforms, 343 is surely aware that any deviation may result in more criticism in the future.

Halo Infinite will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC in 2021.
