Daisy Ridley is best known for playing Rey Skywalker in Disney’s Star Wars sequels, but now that the Skywalker saga is officially over, she is more than ready to move forward and explore other genres, and she already has a couple of exciting projects lined up – and here’s every one of them. Daisy Ridley’s career began in 2013 in small roles in TV shows like Casualty, Youngers, and Toast of London, as well as various short-films, and her first movie role arrived in 2015 with the independent supernatural horror-thriller Scrawl, directed and written by Peter Hearn.

After that, Ridley appeared in the TV shows Silent Witness and Mr. Selfridge, and she was later cast as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released in 2015. Rey was Ridley’s breakout role, which opened many doors in her career, and between The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, she voiced Taeko Okajima in the English dub of the Japanese animated drama Only Yesterday, was the narrator of the documentary The Eagle Huntress, and played Mary Debenham in Kenneth Branagh’s mystery thriller Murder on the Orient Express. Following The Last Jedi, she played the lead role in the romantic drama Ophelia, which tells the story of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet from Ophelia’s perspective, and voiced Cottontail Rabbit in Peter Rabbit.

Ridley’s time in the Star Wars universe came to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, though before that she voiced Rey in the TV series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Ridley’s biggest project since the Star Wars sequels is Chaos Walking, a sci-fi action-adventure directed by Doug Liman and adapted from the 2008 book The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, the first in the trilogy Chaos Walking, but what’s next for the young actress? Here’s every upcoming Daisy Ridley movie.

Women In The Castle

Women in the Castle is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Jessica Shattuck, and it tells the story of three German women during and after World War II. These characters are the widows of conspirators involved in the assassination attempt on Hitler, and so the story sees them dealing with the fallout of their personal lives and the consequences of decisions they had no control over, as well as with the devastation around them brought by the war. Also starring are Kristin Scott Thomas and Nina Hoss (A Most Wanted Man, Homeland), and the project will be written and directed by Jane Anderson (The Wife). Women in the Castle doesn’t have a projected release date yet.

The Inventor (2023)

Daisy Ridley’s upcoming projects are not only live-action movies, as she will also lend her voice in animated stories. Such is the case of The Inventor, a stop-motion claymation movie following the life of Leonardo da Vinci. The Inventor is written and directed by Jim Capobianco, co-writer of Pixar’s Ratatouille, and follows the legendary artist and inventor as he laves Italy to join the French court, where he can experiment freely, thus coming up with flying contraptions, incredible machines, and is able to continue his studies on the human body. Joining da Vinci in this adventure is princess Marguerite, who will help the artist answer the ultimate question: what is the meaning of it all? Ridley will voice princess Marguerite and will be joined by Stephen Fry as Leonardo da Vinci, Marion Cotillard as Louise de Savoy, and Matt Berry as Pope Leo X. The Inventor doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to arrive in 2023.

Young Woman And The Sea

Young Woman and the Sea is an upcoming Disney+ original movie, marking Daisy Ridley’s return to the Mouse House after her time in the Star Wars universe. Based on Glenn Stout’s novel Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World, the movie is set to be directed by Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and will tell the true story of Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926. Ridley will play Trudy Ederle, a role that originally went to Lily James back in 2015 when the movie was being produced by Paramount Pictures, but it ended up in Disney’s hands.

The Ice Beneath Her

Yet another project based on a book, The Ice Beneath Her is a novel by Swedish author Camilla Grebe, and it follows a detective working on the case of a young woman found beheaded in the home of an important businessman. The movie adaptation is set to be directed by Radio Silence – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella – with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) on board as producer. In April 2020, Daisy Ridley was in talks to star in The Ice Beneath Her, and there haven’t been more updates since, but the project is currently listed as “in development”.
