Coming off from the successful debut of Cobra Kai Season 3, Netflix has announced that production on the highly-anticipated fourth season of their hit Karate Kid spinoff series has officially begun. In addition, Variety brings word that Vanessa Rubio and Peyton List -who respectively played the roles of Carmen and Tory during the first three seasons- have finally been promoted to series regulars for Season 4.

Dallas Dupree Young (Shameless, The Fosters) and Oona O’Brien (School of Rock series) have also been tapped to join the Cobra Kai cast for recurring roles. Young will portray the role of Kenny, a bullied new kid in school who turns to karate as a way to defend himself. While, O’Brien is set for the role of Devon, a potential new karate student who is relentlessly competitive, a quick study, and equally quick-tempered when she’s provoked.

In Cobra Kai , Ralph Macchio and William Zabka revisit their star-making roles from the iconic film franchise, The Karate Kid . The epic adversaries return to the dojo, thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. A down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now-successful Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi.

Season 3 sees Daniel LaRusso returning to Japan in order to continue to navigate through life without the mentorship of his Karate Kid sensei, Mr. Miyagi. LaRusso fought in Japan during the events of 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II . With a new sensei at the helm of the Cobra Kai dojo, a three-way feud takes center stage. Old grudges — like Cobra Kai — never die.

The series also stars Courtney Henggeler (Amanda LaRusso), Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz), Tanner Buchanan (Robby Keene), Mary Mouser (Samantha LaRusso), Jacob Bertrand (Hawk), Gianni Decenzo (Demetri), Vanessa Rubio (Carmen), Peyton List (Tory), and Martin Kove (John Kreese).

Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Overbrook Entertainment along with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television, with Ralph Macchio and William Zabka serving as co-executive producers.

The first season of Cobra Kai proved to be a strong success for YouTube, with the first episode garnering over 50 million views within five months of airing and critics and audiences praising the series, awarding it the rare 100 percent “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season also opened with a record-breaking premiere and received highly strong reviews from critics, currently sitting at an 88 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
