Black Adam Movie Casts Pierce Brosnan As DC Superhero Dr. Fate

Recommended Posts

DC's Black Adam casts Pierce Brosnan as the powerful hero Dr. Fate. Dwayne Johnson has been waiting to join the DC Extended Universe for nearly a decade and play the anti-hero, Black Adam. The last few years saw Warner Bros. and DC Films turn their attention to a solo project that can further capitalize on Johnson's global star power. Black Adam has still taken quite some time to get going, though, but the last year has finally brought positive developments.

In addition to Black Adam serving as the introduction to Johnson's anti-hero (who will "rebalance power" in the DCEU), the movie will be used to expand the universe's roster of heroes. It was previously revealed that the Justice Society of America would appear alongside Black Adam in the solo film. Noah Centineo was the first cast member to join the movie, and the up-and-coming star will play the size-changing hero Atom Smasher. The initial JSA roster will also include Cyclone, Hawkman, and Dr. Fate - and now it is confirmed who will play the latter.

According to THR, former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan is joining the cast of Black Adam. He's set to play Kent Nelson, aka Dr. Fate. This will be Brosnan's first superhero movie and officially rounds out the film's JSA roster. Brosnan will get to work rather quickly as Black Adam starts filming next month, even though the movie does not have a confirmed release date as of this writing.

Kent Nelson, aka Dr. Fate, is one of DC's oldest superheroes. The character first appeared in 1940 when Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman included him in More Fun Comics #55. Kent discovers an ancient being known as Nabu, who gave him magical powers. The spirit of Nabu guides Kent on his adventures, and he is incapable of feeling emotions while wearing the character's classic gold helmet. Dr. Fate is also one of the founding members of the Justice Society in the comics, and it appears he'll be the elder statesman of the team in Black Adam.

Now that all JSA members and most other main cast members have been found for Black Adam, Brosnan is the biggest name on the call sheet other than Johnson. The movie includes Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. The roles of Marwan Kenzari and Sarah Shahi are not confirmed, but both have been teased to be villains. There will likely be some additional casting announcements to come for Black Adam in the weeks ahead as WB and DC fill out more minor, supporting roles. However, Brosnan's Dr. Fate should be featured prominently throughout the film.
