Daisy Ridley Open To Joining The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Star Wars star Daisy Ridley says she’s open to one day appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having wrapped up her stint as Rey in Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy, Ridley can currently be seen alongside Tom Holland in the long-delayed sci-fi adventure film Chaos Walking.

Indeed the main selling point of Chaos Walking is the pairing of Ridley and Holland, the latter of whom of course has been Peter Parker in the MCU ever since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. But could fans of Ridley and Holland one day see the two actors share the screen in an actual MCU film? Recent rumors have claimed Ridley is in fact a favorite to play Spider-Woman in an upcoming movie about the Marvel character. Ridley herself said back in February that she knows nothing about a potential Spider-Woman film but did express interest in the role. “OMG, I would love to play Spider-Woman. But is it more of like an extended Spiderverse thing?” she said.

In a new interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Ridley reiterated that she is not in fact in the running to play Spider-Woman at the present time, but did again express interest in one day joining the MCU in some capacity. She said:

"Well, it's funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumours recently, and I went, 'Oh, that sounds great.' Apparently, I've now declared myself a frontrunner to be Spider-Woman which isn't true!. It's funny because I don't really choose things...I [didn't] set out to do another 'big film.' I just read the script [for Chaos Walking], loved it, and loved the idea of it. Basically, should something come along and be great, of course I'd be open to anything. I just finished WandaVision. What they did with it is so amazing and different and interesting. To be particularly in that world, which is ever shifting and reimagining itself would be very exciting."

Though Spider-Woman is not in fact a project currently known to be in development as a live-action movie by either Disney or Sony, different versions of the character are reportedly set to appear in a female-centered spinoff of the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse from Olivia Wilde. Clearly Ridley would be a good choice to voice one iteration of Spider-Woman in that film and it would not be a shock to see her ultimately come to the screen as Spider-Woman in such a way.

But of course Into the Spider-Verse is not the MCU and what fans really long for is to see Ridley and Holland share the screen as Spider-Woman and Spider-Man. Perhaps that could one day happen, but it would mean Holland continuing to play Spider-Man beyond the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it’s by no means a certainty he will continue on as Parker for such an extended period of time.

If Spider-Woman isn’t the character to bring Ridley to the MCU, there are of course other female characters she could tackle in the universe. In the past, Marvel characters Black Cat, Psylocke and Squirrel Girl have all been put forward as good fits for Ridley, along with Spider-Woman. Indeed, Kevin Feige has said that the MCU will eventually have more female than male heroes, and if that comes to pass there will obviously be plenty of roles to fill and plenty of chances for Ridley to hop into the universe. The odds of Ridley playing a Marvel character indeed seem better than the chances of her ever playing Rey again, as she seems to have well and truly left the world of Star Wars behind.
