Shang-Chi Has The Best Action Of Any Marvel Movie, Says Producer

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings producer Jonathan Schwartz says the film has the best action of any Marvel movie. The long-awaited introduction of Marvel's Master of Kung-Fu will see Simu Liu take on the titular role. Liu has already previewed his masterful fighting skills and the rest of the cast is just as impressive. Icon Michelle Yeoh will take on her second MCU role in Shang-Chi, with Awkwafina, Tony Leung, and Fala Chen rounding out the cast. When it premieres, Shang-Chi will be the 25th film in the MCU, a landmark moment that will take the MCU into new territory.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing Shang-Chi, the first Marvel film to feature a predominantly Asian cast. A first look at the film has been eagerly awaited by fans as the film has been consistently pushed back during the coronavirus pandemic. Several Shang-Chi toys have leaked, giving fans a glimpse as to what's in store for the film, but the appearance of Shang-Chi's Twitter account stoked speculation that more than a look at the toys was in store for fans.

The speculation proved correct when a new poster for Shang-Chi debuted alongside first look images from EW. Schwartz hyped up the film's action, saying, "I think this is the best action [Marvel has] ever done. Every punch is meaningful, every fighting style is meaningful, and the story is told visually in such a great way." Inspiration was reportedly drawn from various sources, including the wushu style of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and the more comedic action of Jackie Chan's films.

In addition to a poster, Shang-Chi's first trailer was released, giving fans a glimpse into the action set to come in the film. Beyond the interpersonal fights, the trailer showed off vast battle sequences accompanied by some giant lions. Additionally, the comedic action mentioned by Schwartz is also present thanks to Awkwafina's role as Katy, Shang-Chi's best friend and apparent partner-in-crime.

When it premieres, Shang-Chi will be the first film since 2019's Captain Marvel to bring a new hero into the fold. It will also be the first of two non-sequel entries into the MCU before Eternals premieres in November. Marvel is shaping up to have a huge 2021, with four theatrical entries, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, co-produced with Sony, and the slate of Disney+ MCU originals set to premiere throughout the year. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, though, will give fans a glimpse into what's in store for the future of the franchise, and with hype like this, the film's release couldn't be more anticipated.
